Controller ContracttoHire | Madison Heights, MI Salary: $175,000-$195,000 Position Overview LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a growing, projectdriven manufacturing and government contracting organization in Madison Heights, MI to identify an experienced Controller for a contracttohire opportunity. This role reports directly to the CFO and leads all aspects of accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls across a multientity organization supporting highly regulated industries. The Controller will play a critical role as the company continues to expand into new product lines and industry verticals. This is a handson leadership role ideal for a CPA with deep expertise in general ledger management, receivables and payables optimization, government contract accounting, and scalable close processes in a highgrowth environment. Essential Responsibilities Accounting & Financial Reporting Own full responsibility for the General Ledger, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and chart of accounts maintenance across multiple entities and business units Lead all monthend, quarterend, and yearend close activities, ensuring timely, accurate, and complete financial reporting Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable operations, including aging, collections, vendor payment cycles, fixed assets, and working capital management Prepare and present monthly financial statements, management reports, and budgettoactual variance analyses for executive leadership Leverage automation and AIenabled accounting tools to streamline close processes, identify anomalies, and support forecasting and budgeting initiatives Develop and maintain executivelevel KPI dashboards and financial reporting tools to track organizational performance in real time Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable government contract accounting requirements, including FAR, DFARS, and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) Maintain working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax requirements and ensure timely filings and compliance Internal Controls & Compliance Design, implement, and maintain internal controls over financial reporting appropriate for a growing, regulated manufacturing environment Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory agencies Lead audit preparation and execution, including support of DCAA audits and compliance reviews Establish, document, and enforce accounting policies and procedures across the organization Leadership & Operations Build, mentor, and manage the accounting team, scaling structure and capabilities as the business expands Evaluate and optimize ERP configurations and accounting workflows to support multientity and multivertical operations Partner closely with the CFO on cash flow management, treasury activities, and strategic financial planning Collaborate crossfunctionally with operations, supply chain, contracts, and program teams to ensure accurate cost accounting and project tracking Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a closely related field Active CPA license required Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including 2-3 years in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior accounting leadership role Deep expertise in general ledger management, AP/AR operations, and recurring monthly and annual close processes Strong working knowledge of GAAP in manufacturing and regulated environments; government contract accounting experience (FAR/CAS) strongly preferred Handson experience with ERP systems (Infor LN preferred) and demonstrated ability to optimize accounting workflows Experience building and maintaining executivelevel KPI dashboards and financial reporting tools Exposure to AIenabled accounting tools, automated threeway match, cash application, and/or data analytics platforms preferred Proven leadership skills with the ability to partner effectively across diverse teams and stakeholder groups Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident) Preferred Qualifications Prior experience in defense, aerospace, or government contracting environments Experience supporting rapid organizational growth, including expansion into new product lines or industry verticals Familiarity with multientity accounting structures and complex organizational models Experience supporting DCAA audits and compliance requirements Proficiency with Power BI, Tableau, or similar financial visualization tools Why This Opportunity This is a highimpact contracttohire leadership opportunity with a growing organization operating in complex, regulated markets.
