The Town of Clayton employs more than 340 full-time staff in areas including police, fire, and electric utilities. The Town of Clayton also offers a range of PT positions including positions in Parks & Rec, Library, and Cultural Arts. Duties & Responsibilities The purpose of the Planning Internship is to gain entry level exposure to local government planning activities. The Intern will shadow each member of the Planning Department in order to develop hands-on abilities with various Planning tasks and projects. Assist the Planning staff with daily tasks Complete ride alongs with Code Enforcement Officers and Planners Research land use regulations and incorporate that knowledge within meetings/presentations Assist with the maintenance of Planning records Other duties as assigned that pertain to Planning Learning Outcomes: Understanding Town regulations and how they are communicated, implemented, and enforced Knowledge of the working relationship between Planning and other departments Ability to effectively present information to a Planning Board Ability to lead pre-application meetings Ability to think critically and understand the impact of land-use decisions Special Requirements, Education & Experience KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES: Candidates for this internship should be critical thinkers; possess the ability to problem solve complex situations; be student minded. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High School Graduate Education or experience in Planning preferred. NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Must be 18 years or older by the internship start date. Must possess a valid Driver License. Must be flexible with scheduling requirements. OR Depending on the position, the Town may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
