Site Engineering Staff Manager The Opportunity: The Site Engineering Staff Manager will lead, manage, and oversee the Site Engineering team responsible for survey, dredge operations, and fill site engineering work. This role will be responsible for managing hiring, promotions, assignments, performance feedback, and engineer development. About the Company: Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corporation is the largest provider of dredging services in the United States. In addition, Great Lakes is fully engaged in expanding its core business into the rapidly developing offshore wind energy industry. The Company has a long history of performing significant international projects. The Company employs experienced civil, ocean and mechanical engineering staff in its estimating, production and project management functions. In its over 135-year history, the Company has never failed to complete a marine project. Great Lakes owns and operates the largest and most diverse fleet in the U.S. dredging industry, comprised of approximately 200 specialized vessels. Great Lakes has a disciplined training program for engineers that ensures experienced-based performance as they advance through Company operations. Duties and Responsibilities: Department Leadership and Management Lead Site Engineering safety initiatives, Safety Action Plans, SESLT projects, safety orientations, training, and ensure participation by team members. Lead and manage the site engineering team, including Site Engineers, Assistant Project Engineers, and Project Engineers, to ensure compliance with job requirements. Conduct regular department meetings to review project status, challenges, and resource allocation. Conduct regular site visits to set expectations for department performance and conduct. Project planning and execution Schedule SE team assignments in collaboration with Project Sponsors and Project Managers to meet project staffing needs. Publish regular staffing updates and forecasts to communicate planning to managers and team members. Technical Oversight and Quality Control Ensure project activities meet specified standards defined by company requirements and client specifications Perform audits of SE deliverables to ensure project and department compliance. Develop and apply corrective actions as necessary. Conduct site inspections and audits to verify that Engineering activities are proceeding according to company requirements and client specifications. Team Development and Training Develop each team member through planned SE engagements for project assignments. Manager rotations in development roles for production, estimating, remote operations support center, and Site Engineering department. Manage and conduct necessary performance reviews that detail functional competencies, promotion consideration, annual review processes and goals. Address performance issues. Ensure entry level and mid-level management training for Assistant Project Engineers and Project Engineers respectively. Staffing Manage recruiting activities that meet the staffing needs for Site Engineering. Manage total SE staffing levels and 3rd party spend within bounds set by management. Requires frequent travel for field visits to construction sites, site inspections, meetings and client visits. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental Engineering or Construction Management. Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience in site engineering, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial or leadership role. Proven track record of successfully managing and developing people. Expertise in civil engineering, survey, and dredging Proficient in engineering design software, such as AutoCAD or similar. Strong understanding of regulatory compliance, and environmental regulations. Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and processes as they relate to dredging. Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively handle challenging personnel and quickly changing conditions. Detail-oriented and highly organized, with a commitment to delivering high quality results.
