Salary : $62,092.68 - $75,474.60 Annually Location : Mukilteo, WA Job Type: Full-time Job Number: 2026-00168 Department: Police Department Opening Date: 03/04/2026 Closing Date: 3/18/2026 11:59 PM Pacific FLSA: Non-Exempt Bargaining Unit: LES Description Performs various clerical and secretarial skills relative to the Police Department and including confidential matters. Essential Duties Performs routine office procedures including record checks, correspondence, filling, report typing, maintain property and evidence room, maintain supplies and requisition supplies for the department. Types accurately police reports from handwritten and recorded reports. Operates police radio console, computer terminals, data bank, typewriter, calculator, adding machines, copier, shredder cassette recorder and transcribes, and telephone equipment. Receives in-person counter inquiries and numerous telephone inquiries on multi-line telephone system; answers questions of general and technical nature and refers individuals to appropriate offices/agencies as needed. Writes and composes various police-related reports. Accepts and handles evidence and found property, including securing in property room and maintaining evidence logs in accordance with policy and strict procedures. Assists with and/or searches suspects. Monitors and maintains security measures necessary to the assignment. Tallies traffic and criminal citations and records for departmental use; prepares cases for court docket; fingerprints citizens, and issues concealed weapons permits. Deals with irate, combative, and frequently intoxicated citizens. Maintains communications with officers and provides information and data when requested. Appears in court to present evidence and testifies against persons accused of crimes. Collects and accounts for monies including issuing receipts. Takes direction from supervisor as necessary. Duties are performed in an office environment. WORKING CONDITIONS: Duties are primarily performed in an office environment. Contact with irate and combative citizens may occur. Able to occasionally lift and carry twenty pounds. QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge of: General office procedures and department practices. Effective oral and written communication skills. Laws, codes and regulations governing area of assignment. Ability to: Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with individuals. Operate a variety of office equipment and utilize computer equipment. Establish effective working relationships. Organize documentation and coordinate work. Type proficiently and use proper grammar. Work flexible shifts and evenings. Physical ability to perform essential job functions. Experience and Training Guidelines - Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: Some experience with computers, office machines and procedures. Proficient in typing, some background in law enforcement is desirable. Training: Graduation from high school, vocational school or G.E.D. equivalent.
