EARLY HEAD START TEACHER ASSISTANT Full-Time, Excellent Benefits and Paid Time Off Starting Wage: $18.42 - $20.47 per hour, based on Education Bilingual Starting Wage: $19.34 - $21.49 per hour, based on Education PURPOSE: The Early Head Start (EHS) Teacher Assistant assists theSpecialist I/EHS Teacher in providing for the care, safety and well-being of thechildren within the center-based services; supporting early learningexperiences and curriculum in the classroom; assisting specialists/teacherswith child assessment documentation. The EHS Teacher Assistant is responsible for meeting the Head Start performance standards andfollowing the Agency policies and procedures. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: I. CHILDEDUCATION SERVICES - CENTER A. Providenurturing, responsive care to children according to the EHS Education policiesand procedures. B. Ensurechild safety and supervision at all times according to the child supervisionprocedures. C. Participatein curriculum planning and implementation under the leadership of theSpecialist I/EHS Teacher. D. Supportthe classroom daily schedule and individualized plans to support children'ssuccess, including children with disabilities and challenging behaviors; E. Documentchild observations and daily care provided. F. Implementstrategies to support positive child guidance as assigned. G. Providediapering, hand washing, and all other health and safety routines in accordancewith policies and procedures. H. Welcomeand support parents and create respectful partnerships with all families. I. Activelyparticipate in classroom debriefs and training opportunities to increase skillsand knowledge in working with young children. J. Reportsuspected cases of child abuse and neglect in accordance with state laws and Agencypolicy. K. Participatein cleaning and organizing of classrooms, outdoor environment and center on adaily basis. L. Substitutefor EHS Teachers/Specialists as determined by Site Manager. II. STAFFDEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING A. Engagein training opportunities and meet all agency training requirements in a timelymanner. B. Participatein the development of a Professional Development Plan and meet establishedgoals. C. Engagein coaching, teacher learning communities and/or professional learningcommunities as assigned. D. Communicateprofessionally in all contact regarding Early Head Start. III. INTERACTIONWITH CHILDREN, PARENTS, AND CO-WORKERS A. Mustrelate in a positive way, both verbally and physically, to children, parents,and co-workers. B. Mustprovide a nurturing environment, using appropriate verbal and physicalinteraction. C. Mustbe sensitive to the needs of children, parents, and co-workers. D. Mustdemonstrate/use quick, safe reactions and responses in dealing with children orsituations that involve children. IV. WORKENVIRONMENT AND SAFETY A. Maintaina safe and pleasant work environment. B. Followsafety regulations, policies, and procedures. C. Activelycontribute towards promoting a safe workplace and environment. V. REQUIREDJOB SPECIFICATIONS: Education: High school diplomaor equivalent required; and ChildDevelopment Associate (CDA) credential required OR Step8 in Oregon Registry Pathways required. Experience: Minimum of sixmonths of experience in an early childhood setting, or program working withpregnant women, or parents of infants and toddlers preferred. Certification/Accreditation: Enrollment inOregon Registry required; Certified TS Gold Interrater Reliable required;Current CPR/First Aide (Adult and Pediatric) and Food Handler Certificationrequired (may be obtain at Head Start after hire). Essential Skills: Excellent written and verbal communicationskills; high proficiency in the use of computer software programs and databases; strong leadership and effective group facilitation skills; ability toapply sound understanding of infant/toddler growth and development toparent/child activities; ability to promote the growth and development ofadults as parents; ability to work with parents and their children warmly,calmly, respectfully and in an encouraging and unhurried manner; ability tooversee both small and large groups of parents and children; possess a generalknowledge of child nutrition, health, safety and special needs and a generalknowledge of community resources for families. Bilingual EHS Teacher Assistant must possess sufficient language proficiency to facilitateinterpretation and/or translation of written data in all forms and ability toprovide accurate information to the public requiring bilingual assistance; mustdemonstrate understanding of inclusion of the Hispanic culture, language,values and practices in all services provided. Essential Mental Abilities: High initiative andability to work independently and as part of a team; able to prioritize,resolution oriented; facilitate and/or manage multiple activities; Inform,explain, and exercise sound judgment; demonstrate flexibility, openness tochange, and an understanding and acceptance of staff, child and familydiversity; ability to remain alert and productive for extended periods of time;maintain confidentiality standards. EssentialPhysical Requirements: Ability to frequently lift/carry up to 40 lbs.a distance of 10 feet; run 50 feet in 6 seconds; sufficient mobility and rangeof motion to perform intermittent standing, walking, balancing, stooping,bending, crouching, crawling, sitting on the floor, reaching, squatting orkneeling, twisting and ascend/descend steps; sit for long periods of time;frequently react quickly to the physical actions of children; operate a motorvehicle; sufficient vision, hearing, manual dexterity and eye-hand coordinationto perform job duties. Exposure to Hazards: Repetitive motion tasks, sitting for long periods of time;unpredictable child and family behavior; hazardous chemicals; contagiousconditions; work with personal computer and other office equipment; driving andriding in motor vehicles. Working Conditions: Riding in motor vehicles;unpredictable child/client behaviors; work with personal computer and otheroffice equipment; possible exposure to contagious conditions.
