Job Description

Join the Northbrook Park District as a Landscape Maintenance Worker! Skilled, technical and non-skilled labor work for the District's Grounds and Athletic Operations. Responsibilities include completing projects for the Parks & Properties Division and cross departmental accountability for Leisure Service and other departments in the day-to-day activities of the Grounds Maintenance Department. Demonstrates commitment to the Mission, Vision and Guiding Principles of the District. Pay & Schedule: $18.15-$23.00 Per Hour (DOQ) This is a part time seasonal, non exempt position, Monday-Friday. Duties & Responsibilities: Effectively performs routine maintenance work required for athletic fields, grounds and landscape operation. Correctly adheres to Park District policies and procedures. Safely and skillfully operates a variety of vehicles and equipment including; tractors, trucks and power equipment in assignments. Efficiently performs general ground maintenance activities such as; raking, weeding, mowing, pruning, planting, cultivating, mulching, edging, watering and litter removal. Thoroughly conducts the maintenance and repair of the District's ball diamonds, athletic fields and sled hills, garbage removal and snow removal. Actively participates in all division training. Arrives to work on time, fully ready to start work for the duration of the work day. Properly and willingly trains other seasonal staff in maintenance and equipment procedures. Thoroughly and accurately completes all work orders, time sheets and paperwork as requested before the end of each day; follows all oral and written instructions. Successfully passes all safety training requirements and testing before operating any tools or safety equipment as required. Effectively assists with the general grounds and building maintenance as needed. Actively participates with the set-up and takedown of special events. Meticulously signs out and returns all tools, materials and equipment to the proper location; reports necessary maintenance repairs to the Grounds Manager and the Mechanic. Properly and thoroughly conducts all required safety inspections; wears Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when performing duties. Collaborates with internal and external customers in a positive manner. Follows safe work practices. Performs related duties as assigned. Knowledge, ability, and skills equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of high school supplemented by two (2) years experience in one of the following areas: athletic field maintenance, turf maintenance, general grounds maintenance or a related field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, ability and skills. Skills & Abilities Communicate effectively both orally and in writing Ability to work independently and efficiently Maintain satisfactory working relationship with Park District personnel and the general public, and serve as a lead worker to seasonal staff Operate equipment and tools used in maintenance assignments and follow adequate safety precautions Perform general maintenance and functions in the care of athletic fields, trees, shrubs, turf grass and flowers Operate chemical spraying equipment in a skilled and safe manner utilizing the type and amount of chemical directed Work overtime and weekends when necessary Knowledge Maintenance policies, practices and procedures Occupational hazards and safety precautions General plant identification and/or horticultural practices Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
