Position Summary: Responsible for organizing and implementing a therapy program to meet the needs of speech, language, and hearing impaired students and meeting the duties of teaching and service delivery as outlined in laws and policies. Job Type: Full-TimeContract: 10 MonthFLSA Status: Non-exemptMinimum Qualifications: Master's Degree and valid BASLP state license from the Department of Health Professions Desired qualifications: Certificate of Clinical Competence Essential Functions: Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring students suspected and identified as having speech and language impairments. Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, fluency, and language impairments. Provides screening to identify speech and/or language impaired children at regular intervals and at specified levels. Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate. Provides appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual students' needs and corrects existing speech and/or language impairments. Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members. Provides information, support, and training to parents and families when appropriate. Provides staff development and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech and/or language. Keeps thorough cumulative records for each student receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services. Maintains lists of referred, screened, and eligible students, as well as a directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialists, and related services. Compiles case history data on those cases where additional family history, health history, or early intervention was significant. Assumes primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and supplies. Completes the necessary paperwork on students that qualify for Medicaid reimbursement. Functions as a member of the multi-disciplinary assessment team for a child who has been referred for services. Follows and complies with state, federal, and local guidelines in writing IEPs and complying with other regulatory requirements. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the supervisor. Assesses the need for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and implements appropriate AAC interventions for individuals with complex communication needs. Provides training and support to teachers and staff on the use of AAC systems when applicable. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of the subject(s) taught; thorough knowledge of primary, elementary, middle, high school or special education principles, practices and procedures; thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching; thorough knowledge of school system rules, regulations and procedures; ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports; skill in the use of personal computers and related software packages, hardware and peripheral equipment; ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, students and parents. Education and Experience: Master's Degree and valid BASLP state license from the Department of Health Professions Desired qualifications: Certificate of Clinical Competence, AAC Experience Physical Requirements: Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 50 pounds).
