Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. This will be filled on a permanent basis. Duties Help Assist examining Medical Officer with applicant examination and identification of disqualifying enlistment/retention factors and/or determination of applicant's fitness for military duty. Perform Medical Technician duties (i.e., collect and process medical specimens, perform laboratory testing, monitor and stock medical supplies, etc.). Ensure proper maintenance of medical testing/evaluative equipment. Provide technical guidance to subordinates. Lead Medical Exam Function team. Verify applicants' identity using previously captured biometrics (i.e., digital fingerprints and photographs). Requirements Help Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption. Applicant must undergo blood testing on a yearly basis. This position requires incumbent to successfully complete Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training in order to access the MHS GENESIS System within 30 days of on-boarding and/or as required. This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident. This position requires the applicant to use restrictive and protective clothing such as surgical gloves and non-exposing footwear. This position may require occasional Saturday work and occasional shift work (before 0600 and after 1800 hours). Twenty-five percent business travel or temporary duty (TDY) requirement on an annual basis. Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience for GS-07: Applicants must clearly identify in their resumes that they possess one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level (GS-06) or equivalent. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, which includes: Measuring vital signs of applicants/patients (i.e., taking blood pressure, pulse, respiration readings); Collecting specimens (i.e., blood, urine, tissue) from lab or directly from patient; Documenting patients' medical information into a computer system; Performing laboratory tests and examinations (i.e., chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.
