This role offers the chance to revolutionize our systems by implementing architectural changes and robust methodologies, and leveraging advanced tools that yield significant gains in latency, throughput, efficiency, and cost. If you possess a talent for troubleshooting intricate distributed systems and have a passion for mentoring teams to achieve measurable performance improvements, we welcome you to help us drive innovation in cloud technology. Responsibilities Steer the performance architecture for essential services, establishing strategic direction and best practices across applications, OS, network, storage, and hardware layers. Develop KPIs and benchmarking methodologies; create and maintain representative workloads and reproducible benchmarks. Promote systemic enhancements in service and data-plane architectures. Design and implement tools for profiling, tracing, and telemetry to generate clear, actionable insights. Foster cross-organizational collaboration to ensure performance is integrated, observable, and scalable. Lead and mentor engineering teams, providing technical leadership and guidance, and influencing long-term roadmaps and technical standards. Qualifications Required: Extensive expertise in systems performance encompassing all layers: application, OS, network, storage, and hardware. In-depth knowledge of operating system and network stack components, particularly Linux internals, scheduling, and memory/IO subsystems. Strong foundation in software engineering with practical experience in performance profiling and observability. Proficient in writing and analyzing performant low-level code (e.g., C, raw sockets, CPU/vector instructions, memory/cache optimization). Familiarity with high-performance IO paths and understanding of cross-region networking and latency trade-offs. Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience, with demonstrated technical leadership and mentorship skills. Preferred: Expertise in virtualization/containers. Experience in Java performance, including JVM/JIT/GC internals, JFR/async-profiler, and benchmarking. Low-level engineering skills in C/C++/Rust/Go, with a proven ability to analyze instruction-level hotspots, memory/cache behavior, and concurrency issues. Specialization in database or storage performance, particularly regarding query execution, indexing, and IO path optimization. Disclaimer: Certain customer-facing roles may require compliance with specific immunization and occupational health mandates. Compensation: Hiring Range in the US from $96,800 to $251,600 per annum; eligibility for bonuses, equity, and compensation deferral may apply.
