Overview The Sr. Materials Manager will be guiding a team of Field Buyers and Material Control personnel in the successful buyout of equipment, materials, bulks, site consumables, services and material control operations on capital construction projects. The position will be responsible for executing and coordinating with the construction team in providing a successful project for our client. Location & Travel Details: You can be based in any city or state in the U.S.. This is a traveling, project based position, up to 90% of the time. You have the potential to be placed on a project site located in any state throughout the US. You'll spend 8-18 months on average per project. We offer designated per diem in addition to an excellent base salary to support and help you cover living expenses. This position is eligible for mobilization support (may include mileage reimbursement), and includes one longer weekend every four weeks for additional time at home. A company vehicle and fuel card OR vehicle allowance will be provided. Responsibilities ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Ensure the assigned procurement team successfully completes each project ensuring that all project team members are fully conversant with the project objectives. Lead, develop and execute purchasing and warehousing strategies and plans. Prepares RFP packages, conducts bidders conferences, analyzes, and evaluates proposals, negotiates purchase order provisions, selects, or recommends suppliers, writes contractual documents, and administers resulting purchase orders. Negotiates and coordinates additions, deletions, or modifications to purchase orders. Ensure the procurement team negotiates with the aim to reduce cost, minimize risk, and leverage opportunities. When required must be able to work closely with the MIC legal team to negotiate the most favorable terms with suppliers. Develop and manage a procurement schedule that will enable the work to be completed based upon funding availability and planned equipment fabrication durations. Maintain the weekly status report for all procurement and warehousing activities. Review, analyze and monitor assigned supplier capabilities, quotes, bids and performance. Facilitate the timely resolution of issues with suppliers related to price, quality, delivery, condition, etc. Lead, train, coach, and mentor the project's junior level colleagues. Attend meetings and facilitate discussions with internal customers and external suppliers to ensure communication and alignment of expectations and results. Maintain procurement files in audit ready condition. Coordinate any changes with the project team as appropriate and evaluate impact. Create, update, communicate and present procurement data at applicable monthly project meetings. Develop and maintain expertise on assigned products and services. Must have the ability to present the procurement process to stakeholders in an effective manner. Challenge the construction manager when projects depart from basic purchasing or inventory control principles. Identifies and implements improvement opportunities within own role and responsibilities. Communicate effectively, resolve conflicts, solve problems and make efficient and effective decisions. Work collaboratively with other procurement personnel inside the MasTec family of companies when applicable to increase and improve purchasing leverage. Research and evaluate new sources for assigned products and services Follow and enforce procurement and material control related policies and procedures. Promote and comply with all Company safety policies and procedures Support the implementation of industry best practices and maintain a mindset of continuous improvement. Manage special projects as assigned. SUPERVISORY: Manage a small team of Field Buyers and Material Control personnel throughout the lifecycle of a capital construction project [Mobilization to Close Out]. Manage, lead direct reports, and mentor. Qualifications EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in any Business field, Construction Management, Engineering or Supply Chain. Or demonstrated equivalent experience. Seven (7)- Ten (10) years related experience at the Senior Buyer level with demonstrated leadership, management, and improvement results. Procurement Certifications (CPM, CSCP, CSCM, CPP, etc.) or demonstrated equivalent experience. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated progressive experience and career advancement in EPC Procurement/Industrial Construction industry. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Be knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project specific regulations. When on-site, actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors. Set a personal example of safe behavior. Experience managing others and leading by example. Strong data analysis and advanced problem-solving skills. Strong computer skills and advanced knowledge of Microsoft office suite and Outlook. Strong experience using ERP software. Advanced understanding of terms, nomenclature and business models used in the construction industry. Ability to adapt to changing work requirements and priorities and demonstrate a high level of service delivery. Ability to organize and plan team tasks in a changing environment, monitor their execution, anticipate risks, assess impacts, and develop contingency plans. Ability to be accurate, precise and follow set procedures and standards. Strong collaboration and written, verbal and electronic communication skills. Strong interpersonal communications skills to effectively interface with clients, vendors, contractors, project managers, engineers, construction members and stakeholders. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions. May need to maintain physical strength and stamina; Use arms, hands, and legs fully; Push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks. Stamina to perform this task repetitively and continuously for several hour intervals. Uncontrolled environmental conditions: Constant change in weather and site conditions. This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises. Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to- safety toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.). Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas. May need to work at heights and must be able to abide by all safety and fall-protection requirements; must be able to wear and utilize all safety equipment required for work at heights. Evaluate information based on measurable standards; and see details in objects or drawings and recognize slight differences in shapes and shadings. Visualize objects in three dimensions from drawings. Keep good balance and work at heights. See well (either naturally or with correction). Hear well (either naturally or with correction.) Coordinate the use of eyes, hands, and feet. HOURS: This position is a Full-Time position scheduled to work typically 50 hours per week. Schedule is subject to projects requirements.
