This role as a Nursing Shift Manager (NSM) is perfect for a Registered Nurse ready to take on leadership responsibilities during shifts in the Obstetrics and Nursery units. General Summary The NSM oversees unit operations during their shift, ensuring patient safety, quality care, and staff support. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Adhere to established policies for patient safety, including infection prevention, safe patient handling, and critical lab notifications. Monitor and coach staff compliance with safety and quality standards. Maintain central lines and prevent surgical site infections according to protocols. Deliver quality nursing care, including medication administration, interventions, and patient/family education. Support quality initiatives by monitoring outcomes, participating in process improvements, and educating staff. Perform initial and ongoing patient assessments to ensure safety and accurate communication with the healthcare team. Review and co-sign assessments completed by LPN staff, providing feedback to enhance performance. Utilize critical thinking to identify and address areas needing improvement in patient care. Document patient care activities and quality monitoring accurately to support compliance. Communicate effectively with physicians, nursing staff, patients, and families to improve outcomes and patient experience. Handle service recovery professionally and follow up on patient care concerns. Delegate tasks appropriately while fostering teamwork and accountability. Adapt positively to healthcare dynamics and support organizational mission and values. Engage in continued education to develop nursing skills and provide constructive feedback to staff. Education Graduation from an accredited nursing school is required. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred. Experience At least one year of registered nursing experience is preferred. Certification and Licensure Current RN license valid in the regional compact or state licensure. Graduate nurses must obtain licensure within 90 days of graduation. American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification required. Mental and Physical Requirements This role requires considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 lbs, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching. Working Conditions Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases, as well as occasional encounters with hostile individuals. Minimal physical discomfort is expected.
