Teaching Fellow in Debate and Forensics (One-Year) The Brearley School, an independent girls' school serving over 770 students K-12, welcomes candidates for a one-year, full-time position as Teaching Fellow in Debate, beginning in August, 2026. This position reports to the Dean of Students and the Head of Upper School Student Life. We invite interested candidates to apply for this position by completing an application and uploading a cover letter and resume at Responsibilities include: Coaching and leading debate in the Middle and Upper School; supporting students in building skills in argumentation, research, speech, and competitive strategy in Lincoln Douglas and Public Forum debate formats Providing organizational and instructional support to Model Congress, Model UN, Mock Trial and other speech oriented clubs in the Upper School Supporting the Dean of Students and Head of Upper School Student Life in the coordination and supervision of Upper School activities, including day-to-day logistics and event planning Chaperoning evening and weekend events and several weekend trips in the Upper School during the academic year Substitute teaching in the Middle and Upper School, as needed Overseeing and teaching the Middle School Debate Camp in the summer Implementing an inclusive, anti-bias, and anti-racist pedagogy in the co-curricular program Collaborating with a team of dedicated faculty and staff to guide 'girls of adventurous intellect and diverse backgrounds' in the Upper School Teaching a course in the academic program, as needed The ideal candidate will: Have a bachelor's degree in the humanities; a graduate degree is preferred Have three years of experience coaching and leading a competitive debate program Demonstrate the desire to work collaboratively with students, parents, faculty, and staff Possess strong communications skills Have a commitment to the education of girls Demonstrate cultural competency About the School Founded in 1884, Brearley's mission has long combined outstanding academics with an insistence on a larger purpose: A passionate exchange of ideas within the School's walls that prepares girls of adventurous intellect and diverse backgrounds to put their knowledge and habits of mind to meaningful use in the wider world. Salary In 2026-2027, the total salary for this position ranges from 68,400 to 75,000 depending on years of full-time relevant experience.
