Purchasing Manager

Darigold is seeking an experienced and motivated Purchasing Manager to join the team at our Portland Plant. The Purchasing Manager's primary focus is placing Purchase Orders (POs) and managing the inventory for Packaging and Ingredient (P&I) supplies at Darigold production facilities in Portland/Milwaukee, OR. Functions of the role include, but are not limited to, routine and impromptu purchase orders, vendor performance and addressing vendor account related issues including invoice discrepancies. What You Will Do: Conduct purchasing activities in compliance with purchasing procedures that assures inventory availability meets the needs of plant operations and manufacturing. Issue all packaging and ingredient POs, releasing against vendor contracts where applicable. Track plant P&I inventories using reports and conducting physical inventory count. Understand safety stock needs and order lead-times to ensure supply continuity across all product and production lines. Support phase in and out of packaging and ingredient inventories while minimizing obsolesces risk. Provide support and process improvement for direct procurement activities. Coordinate and follow through with Darigold Transportation when arranging freight for P&I to ensure timely pickup and delivery. Complete vendor complaint forms for any unacceptable or defective P&I. Identify and collaborate with purchasing category leaders on cost savings opportunities. Follow up with suppliers on delivery and order confirmations. Perform contractor / supplier job walks where necessary. Communicate closely with purchasing category leaders on spend that may be leveraged across multiple divisions, supplier performance challenges and any significant changes in the needs of the respective local sites. Maintain professional supplier relationships and communicate to purchasing category leaders when supply or market risks are identified. Manage issues with accounts payable, delivery, invoicing, receiving and other departments as needed to assure an efficient payment process. Ensure internal control processes and policies are followed. Professionally resolve problems (both internal and external) in a fair and ethical manner. Work independently on a day-to-day basis while contributing to a team environment. Review assignments with management regularly. Must work safely and according to the company's safety requirements. Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned. What You Will Bring: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution or equivalent experience. Minimum 4 years of professional working experience and two years of purchasing experience. Continuous working experience is desirable. Supply Chain or purchasing certification is desirable. Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Lotus Notes and the internet. Must have experience in an ERP environment. Experience in SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics AX or similar product. Proactively identify and act on problems before issues occur. Apply critical thinking skills to analyze and resolve complex problems. Excellent communication, both verbal and written. Possesses a guest service mentality; has a genuine desire to serve the customer. Maintains a calm, tactful demeanor when dealing with difficult situations. Manages multiple projects and timelines with a sense of urgency. Well organized and detail oriented.
