Posting Details Applicant View of Posting Posting Number 4137P Position Title Jet Lead Operator - 955 Department Utilities Job Code 02884 FLSA Status Non-Exempt Union Code/Affiliation Local 955 Division SEWER Job Description Summary The purpose of this job is to perform and oversee the routine cleaning of sanitary sewer mains and storm drainage facilities using high-pressure sewer jet equipment. Responds to emergency sewer and storm water calls. Essential Duties and Responsibilities - The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description Organizes crews to complete routine cleaning and inspection of sanitary sewer system and storm water system. Provides safety training for employees to complete job tasks. Responds to emergency sewer and storm water calls. Maintains equipment. Leads crew and oversees daily operations. Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function. Performs other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities No supervisory authority. Work requires providing guidance and training to others. This position may oversee work quality, training, instruction, and work assignments. Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be consideredEducation and Experience High school diploma or equivalent. 3 to 5 years' experience in medium and heavy equipment operations. Licenses or Certifications Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement and no air brake restriction. Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certification. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this positionKnowledge of: Medium and heavy motorized equipment operation and maintenance. Safety standards and precautions pertaining to the use and operation of motorized equipment and hand/power tools. Common business software applications such as Microsoft Office Sewer and storm water systems. Mechanics and tools. Skill in: Developing and maintaining effective working relationships Maintaining accurate records. Organizing and maintaining attention to detail. Communicating verbally and in writing to meet the needs of the audience. Applying active listening and asking questions for understanding. Estimating time and materials needed to complete jobs. Ability to: Use and maintain hand and power tools and heavy equipment. Maintain focus, attention to detail, and safety precautions. Read and understand maps and navigate to a location. Read and understand system diagrams and information. Provide high levels of effective customer service. Provide direction to other employees. Recognize, analyze and solve a variety of problems. Diagnose mechanical problems. Focus on tasks. Work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner. Ability to work on-call and respond at all hours of the day/night. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Positions assigned to work on-call are required to maintain a telephone and permanent residence within 50 road miles of City Hall, 701 E. Broadway, Columbia, MO, within 90 days of hire.
