The person will handle the implementation and explanation of underwriting policies and procedures related to the processing of new business and underwriting processes as related to other department processes. This person will be responsible for developing new guidelines based on industry or regulatory changes. All duties require identification of medical terminology, identification of prescription medications, use of the Swiss Re Underwriting manual, and evaluation of MIB, phone calls, motor vehicle records, lab results, paramedical exams, and medical records.Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Responsible for screening life insurance applications including trial applications for selection of risks rendering either an issue standard, rate, or reject dispositionImplementation of underwriting policies and procedures related to the processing of new business and other department processesImplementation of medical guidelines using the Swiss Re Underwriting manual and Globe company notesMIB code reporting and interpretation of MIB code dataReview and evaluate results of oral saliva testsReview and evaluate results of agent verification calls and other underwriting phone callsReview and evaluate motor vehicle records (MVRs)Review and evaluate prescription (Rx) histories to determine associated health conditionsReview, summarize, and evaluate medical records (APSs)Review and evaluate paramedical exams and lab results including EKGsRespond to customer service inquiries regarding dispositionsEvaluate health information received with add-ons, modifications, and reinstatementsServe as the underwriting contact for SGAs, AOs, or pre-approval from Financial Advisors for underwriting information and escalated issuesHandle sensitive cases and positive drug screensHandle aging or escalated cases where all information is not received to make a final decisionHandle referrals from other underwriters and screenersAssist with training of underwriters, screeners, and other associated underwriting rolesAssist with other underwriting areas as deemed necessary by department management Required SkillsKnowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Critical thinking skills required on a daily basis.Ability to manage and oversee the implementation of new guidelinesExcellent verbal and written communication skillsExcellent PC skills Excel, MS Word, and MS-Outlook; MS Access a plusStrong medical and underwriting knowledge requiredA combination of experience and education will be considered on an individual basis.
