Job Description This position is based onsite in Nashville, TN. Join Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) as we revolutionize cloud computing with mission-critical applications for enterprises worldwide. Our cloud platform boasts unmatched hyper-scale, multi-tenant services across more than 50 regions and we are continuously expanding into dedicated, hybrid, multi-cloud, and edge computing solutions. At the Technical Strategy and Oversight (TSO) organization, we are committed to enhancing customer choice, transparency, and value in cloud infrastructure. We are undertaking exciting new initiatives to create innovative platforms, high-performance primitives, and robust frameworks. We aim to build a new container runtime capable of managing a broad spectrum of OCI services, especially our high-performance and high-availability offerings. Our focus includes developing core data-plane components, a state-of-the-art remote persistent storage solution that rivals local nVME drives in speed, and tools for identifying critical performance enhancements across OCI. As OCI continues its rapid growth, we are seeking a talented Software Engineer to join our newly formed Cloud Performance Organization. This team is instrumental in addressing service inefficiencies, decreasing cloud expenses, enhancing customer experiences, and ensuring scalability across our services. Your focus will be on optimizing the performance of OCI's essential components, internal tools, and applications while nurturing a culture centered around performance engineering. This is a unique opportunity to design and construct cloud services from inception. Join a rapidly growing team of motivated and diverse individuals, where you'll have both autonomy and support to excel in your role. We offer a dynamic and flexible work environment that encourages innovation and collaboration. Who are we looking for? You possess extensive experience in designing and launching major features into production. You have successfully built and operated high-scale public cloud services and have a profound understanding of control plane architecture. You thrive in independent projects and offer technical leadership to development teams. In this role, you'll empower development teams by championing the design of significant service components, actively collaborating with engineering managers and TPMs, and guiding junior team members. You are adept at transitioning from high-level system design to hands-on prototyping, architecture documentation, and conducting engineering peer reviews. You are technically proficient and produce high-quality results efficiently. You find the balance between speed and quality while implementing iterative improvements. Your passion for making developers' lives easier and motivating teams to enhance processes and services through automation and instrumentation sets you apart. You understand operational excellence and have a customer-focused approach to instilling a culture of high quality. Responsibilities Easily evaluate cloud service performance, pinpoint inefficiencies, and devise cost-effective solutions. Analyze and refine internal tools, processes, and developer workflows to boost operational efficiency. Benchmark OCI services against competitors and discover opportunities for performance enhancements. Work closely with service teams to embed performance evaluation tools in CI/CD pipelines. Quantify and communicate the financial impacts of inefficiencies, connecting performance data to vital business metrics. Develop and implement enhancements in shared components, libraries, and runtime configurations. Qualifications: 5 to 10 years of distributed service engineering experience in software development. Proficiency in a modern programming language such as Java, C++, or C#. Hands-on experience with public cloud service control or data planes. Experience in software performance profiling, analysis, and optimization. Strong understanding of object-oriented design and SDK development in a cloud context. Collaborative experience delivering product features on schedule with high quality alongside architects, principals, and product managers. In-depth knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems. Familiarity with networking protocols and common network architectures. Good understanding of databases, NoSQL systems, and distributed storage technologies. Experience in Linux administration and networking stack configuration. Proven technical leadership and mentorship capabilities. Familiarity with JVM and benchmarking tools. Preferred Qualifications: a BS degree in Computer Science or a related field; MS preferred. Hands-on experience developing services on public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP). Experience in conducting security, documentation, and UX reviews while collaborating with Product Managers from inception to launch. Experience in building CI/CD pipelines with thorough testing protocols. Proven record of optimizing performance in cloud infrastructure and distributed systems.
