Our Center for Technology, Essex has an opportunity for a full-time classroom assistant to support our Pre-Tech 1 and 4 programs for the remainder of the 2025-26 school year. Pre-Tech 1 covers building arts and small engine systems, and Pre-Tech 4 covers natural resources. This position is currently available on a temporary one-year basis. Pre-Tech 1 is a program in which students explore the world of mechanics and woodworking. Students work on a variety of carpentry and building projects from lamps and cutting boards to doghouses and storage sheds. In addition, students discover the ins and outs of small engines by dissecting and restoring engines and equipment to working order. Pre-Tech 4 provides an opportunity for students to study curriculum related to natural resources in an environment that caters to a hands-on, creative and mindful individual. The class explores many topics, including heavy equipment, welding, soil science, forestry and silviculture (Silviculture is the fancy name given to the growing and cultivation of trees). Instructional units will be structured around student led projects and activities that focus on communication, academics and occupational skills. The Pre-tech lab assistant assists the program instructor in the education of students including management of student behavior; record keeping; instructional assistance; classroom and field work/laboratory safety, security, set-up and organization; and interaction and communication with students, support staff, parents/guardians, and other internal and external constituents.
