Salary: $21.38 - $29.20 Hourly Location : Council Bluffs, IA Job Type: Full-time Job Number: 2026-026 Department: Sheriff's Office Opening Date: 02/23/2026 Closing Date: 3/4/2026 11:59 PM Central ANNOUNCEMENT & PURPOSE OF POSITION The Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Office is hiring! Join the team as an Office Clerk, support the uniformed deputies, and serve your community every day! An individual in this role is responsible for performing routine clerical tasks, data entry, and the accurate processing of departmental records and reports. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Provide professional front-desk and telephone support to assist the public, respond to inquiries, and direct individuals to appropriate sources according to departmental policies and procedures. Enter and maintain accurate data related to Civil Division operations, including garnishment payments, Sheriff's sales, certificates of purchase, condemnations, and returns of service. Maintain an established confidential file system of official reports, warrants and arrest records, offense and accident reports. Process and issue various weapons permits and permits to acquire according to departmental policies and procedures. Conduct criminal records and driver's history checks in accordance with legal guidelines. Perform basic bookkeeping and financial functions, including posting ledger information, balancing accounts, preparing billing statements, processing deposits and receipts, and issuing checks. Prepare quarterly report of financial activity to the State Auditor's Office. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, government officials, supervisors and fellow employees. On site, regular and predictable attendance is required to ensure timely completion of assigned responsibilities. Other duties as assigned. ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITY Knowledge of routine office procedures, systems, and equipment Professional customer service and telephone etiquette Basic bookkeeping techniques Ability to type 25+ wpm Ability to accurately and efficiently perform cash transactions. Ability to perform basic computer input and retrieval functions. Ability to maintain the confidentiality of all departmental communications, documents and transactions. ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSES Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent Must be a minimum of 18 years of age Driver's license required Clerical office experience preferred Pottawattamie County provides a wide range of employee benefits to support health and well-being, and work/life balance.
