Job Description

Join our innovative team and take on the essential role of a Data Center Engineering Technician! You will be a key player in maintaining mission-critical technology infrastructure that ensures seamless global digital experiences. Your expertise will directly support our extraordinary 99.999% uptime, helping to keep the digital world efficient and functional. As a frontline technician, you will perform hands-on troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical equipment in Data Center Operations. Your responsibilities will include maintaining, operating, and diagnosing issues in our critical facilities, which encompass standby diesel generators, three-phase electrical systems, CRAC units, cooling systems, and a variety of pumps and motors. AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for designing, planning, delivering, and managing all of AWS's global infrastructure, ensuring that the cloud runs smoothly. We face complex challenges that involve numerous variables impacting our supply chain, and we are looking for talented individuals to help us solve them. You will work alongside a diverse team, including software developers, network engineers, supply chain experts, security professionals, and operations managers. Together, you will maintain the highest standards for safety and security while delivering substantial capacity at optimal costs for our customers. A lump-sum stipend will be provided to eligible candidates who relocate for this position. Key Responsibilities: Conduct daily rounds to monitor and document the operational status of electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment, ensuring reliability around the clock. Monitor and manage Building Management Systems (BMS) and the Electrical Power Management System (EPMS). Assist with troubleshooting facility and rack-level events in accordance with internal Service Level Agreements (SLA). Execute rack installations and decommissioning according to internal SLA. Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and repairs of electrical and mechanical systems. Support technical writing for change management programs. Track daily work requests through to resolution and take projects from conception to completion. Provide on-site support for contractors and vendors, ensuring all work aligns with established practices and local regulations. Be prepared for shift changes based on site needs, potentially requiring 12-hour shifts or on-call rotations. Support multiple locations/sites as necessary. Physical Requirements: Willingness to work under various physical conditions with reasonable accommodations, including: Regular lifting/moving of up to 39 pounds independently and participating in group lifts for heavier items. Ability to maintain balance and perform construction tasks on ladders. Frequent walking, use of hands and fingers, and various physical movements related to the job. Working in noise-dense environments requiring provided ear protection. This position supports data centers at various operational stages and may require travel to different locations for training until your designated site becomes fully operational. Essential Requirements: Ability to travel or commute between data center locations as required. Willingness to work at alternative sites temporarily during training or until assigned facility is ready for operation. Travel frequency will vary based on the business needs. Candidates must be able to travel (over 50 miles) or commute (less than 50 miles) as required by operational needs. A Day in the Life: You will report to a Data Center Facility Manager (FM), focusing on hands-on preventative maintenance (PM) and troubleshooting of mission-critical equipment. Your tasks will include maintaining and troubleshooting generators, electrical systems, and various mechanical equipment. Additional responsibilities will encompass fire/life safety systems and building automation. Basic Qualifications: 2+ years of experience with Microsoft Office products. 2+ years of experience in electrical and mechanical systems. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, nights, or weekends. Preferred Qualifications: 4+ years of data center engineering experience. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Knowledge of network design and cabling (copper/fiber). Hands-on experience with data center operations. Ability to perform physical tasks throughout your shift without fatigue.
