City of Pearland Fire Department Internship OpportunityFire Department Outreach Intern (Community Risk Reduction & Public Education)Limited experience welcome - training providedDepartment: Fire Department (Community Risk Reduction / Fire Prevention / Public Education) Location: City of Pearland Fire Department (stations, schools, community sites) Reports To: Fire Marshal's Office / Public Education Coordinator (as assigned) About the InternshipThe City of Pearland Fire Department is seeking an Outreach Intern to support community education and engagement efforts that improve safety and preparedness. This entry-level internship is ideal for candidates interested in public service, communications, education, emergency management, or healthcare pathways. No prior fire service experience is required-training and supervision will be provided. What You'll Do (with support and coaching)Depending on outreach schedules and department needs, you may assist with: Supporting community events and outreach initiatives (setup, check-in, distribution of materials, event wrap-up).Assisting with fire safety education activities (school visits, station tours, safety demonstrations) under staff direction.Helping prepare and maintain outreach materials (handouts, flyers, talking points, safety kits, sign-in sheets).Tracking outreach participation (attendance, locations, materials distributed) and summarizing feedback.Supporting creation of content for outreach (drafting short blurbs, captions, FAQs, and event recaps-reviewed before posting).Updating schedules and maintaining organized files and inventories for outreach supplies.Assisting with special projects tied to community risk reduction (seasonal safety campaigns, smoke alarm initiatives, preparedness messaging). What We're Looking ForMinimum: Currently enrolled in (or recently completed) a degree/certificate program (any major welcome; interest in public safety, education, communications, or public service preferred).Strong customer service and professionalism when interacting with the public.Reliable attendance and ability to follow instructions and safety guidelines.Basic computer skills (email, Word/Excel; ability to learn City tools). Helpful (not required): Experience working with children, the public, or community organizations (volunteering, tutoring, coaching, customer service).Comfort speaking in front of small groups and representing an organization professionally.Interest in emergency preparedness, risk reduction, or public education.
