Description Join Leidos as a Junior Software Developer with AI-enabled development experience to support the UK National Airspace System Replacement Product Delivery Team (UK NASR PDT). This role provides an exciting opportunity to work on real-time, safety-critical systems that are vital for national air traffic operations in the United Kingdom. You will play a key role in modernizing a high-availability air traffic management platform through a combination of traditional systems engineering and pioneering AI-augmented software development techniques. This position features a hybrid work schedule with 3 days onsite at our Gaithersburg, MD; Eagan, MN; or Egg Harbor, NJ locations, and 2 days remote. What You'll Do Design, develop, test, and maintain software for real-time, high-availability systems Utilize AI-assisted development tools to speed up coding, refactoring, debugging, and automated testing Apply AI responsibly across the full software development life cycle, from requirements analysis through to code review Translate complex system requirements into efficient, maintainable designs Create and support automation scripts across development, testing, and production environments Encourage code quality, reuse, traceability, and foster collaboration across teams Required Qualifications AI-Driven Engineering Experience We are looking for engineers who regularly integrate AI into their development workflows. Hands-on experience with AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar) for code generation, refactoring, debugging, and automated test creation Familiarity with large language model platforms (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, etc.) Experience in crafting effective prompts and validating AI-generated outputs A strong understanding of human-in-the-loop development and responsible AI application Ability to assess AI-generated outputs for accuracy, performance, safety, and bias, especially in regulated, safety-critical environments Experience incorporating AI/ML techniques into software engineering practices and automated testing frameworks Core Technical Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field Strong proficiency in object-oriented programming Proficient in C, C++, and/or Ada (Ada preferred but not essential) Experience developing real-time, multi-threaded systems Familiarity with Linux (Red Hat), virtual machines, and hypervisors Knowledge of low-level communications protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, SCTP) Background in hardware or complex system integration Experience with source control and configuration management tools Strong communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance U.S. citizenship is required Why Leidos At Leidos, you'll work on systems where performance, precision, and reliability are of utmost importance.
