Benefits: 401(k) Competitive salary Dental insurance Health insurance Paid time off Vision insurance Job Overview AIMS Locum Tenens is seeking a qualified Cardiovascular Technician to provide specialized cardiovascular procedural support at Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center (ATAMMC), Fort Belvoir, Virginia. The Cardiovascular Technician will assist physicians and the cardiovascular team in performing diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures within the cardiac catheterization laboratory and interventional radiology environment. This role involves preparing equipment, monitoring patient status during procedures, operating imaging and physiological monitoring systems, assisting with sterile procedures, and ensuring accurate documentation in the electronic medical record. The Cardiovascular Technician will work collaboratively with cardiologists, nurses, and other healthcare staff to deliver safe and effective cardiovascular care and support emergency procedures as part of the hospital's 24/7 STEMI and interventional teams. Specific DutiesCardiac Catheterization Support: Assist physicians during cardiac catheterization procedures including left and right heart catheterization, angioplasty, coronary stent placement, and ventricular imaging. Procedural Assistance: Serve as scrub assistant, circulator, monitor technician, and imaging equipment operator during cardiovascular and interventional procedures. Patient Assessment: Perform pre-procedure patient assessments including reviewing patient history, medications, and clinical symptoms. Diagnostic Preparation: Obtain laboratory tests, 12-lead EKGs, and chest X-rays and document all patient data within the electronic health record. Patient Care Support: Initiate intravenous access, obtain vital signs, provide patient education, and assist in preparation for procedures. Sterile Technique and Preparation: Prepare sterile fields, perform antiseptic site preparation, and apply sterile draping following Joint Commission standards. Medication Administration: Assist in procedural sedation administration, including proper documentation, patient monitoring, and use of reversal agents when required. Cardiac Monitoring: Operate physiological monitoring equipment and interpret cardiac rhythms, pressure waveforms, and signs of ischemia or infarction. Radiologic Equipment Operation: Operate imaging equipment such as C-arm systems, fluoroscopy, and digital subtraction angiography to capture cardiovascular images. Cardiovascular Imaging and Measurements: Identify coronary anatomy, analyze vessel projections, recognize lesions, and assist in measuring coronary valve and vessel characteristics. Contrast Injection Management: Operate contrast pressure injectors and adjust injection parameters including pressure, volume, and flow rate. Advanced Device Operation: Assist with intravascular ultrasound, fractional flow reserve measurements, temporary pacemakers, intra-aortic balloon pumps, and foreign body retrieval devices. Hemostasis Procedures: Apply manual compression and operate closure devices such as radial compression devices, suture-based closure systems, and collagen plugs. Post-Procedure Monitoring: Monitor patients during recovery and document assessments and outcomes in the electronic medical record. Emergency Response: Support ACLS resuscitation efforts and maintain emergency equipment and crash carts. Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine checks on medical equipment and ensure operational readiness for procedures. Inventory and Supply Management: Maintain supply inventory, order equipment and disposable supplies, and ensure procedural areas remain fully stocked. Room Turnover: Clean and prepare procedure rooms between cases and coordinate instrument sterilization with sterile processing. On-Call Responsibilities: Participate in the 24/7 on-call STEMI and interventional radiology team for emergency procedures. Training and Education: Assist in orientation and training of new staff, medical students, and other clinical personnel. Administrative Support: Maintain training records, answer patient inquiries, track dosimeter use, and complete readiness checklists. Qualifications:Degree: High school diploma or equivalent required. Education: Graduate of an accredited cardiovascular and interventional training program within the United States. Certification: Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. Experience: Minimum of 5 years of catheterization laboratory experience after graduating from an accredited cardiovascular training program. Licensure: Current, active RCIS credential required. Citizenship Requirement: Must be a U.S. Citizen to perform duties under this federal contract. Skills and Abilities:Strong knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy and cardiac catheterization procedures Ability to operate cardiovascular imaging and monitoring equipment Experience with interventional cardiology devices including catheters, guidewires, balloons, and stents Ability to interpret cardiac rhythms and pressure waveforms Knowledge of sterile technique and procedural safety standards Strong communication and teamwork skills in a high-pressure procedural environment Ability to respond quickly during cardiac emergencies Schedule: Full-time (Monday through Friday) with on-call duties (including nights/weekends for urgent cardiac interventions). Between 0700 and 1600 hours 8-hour shifts within that window Work Environment: Invasive Cardiology Lab (Cath Lab) at WRNMMC Sterile surgical environment with direct patient care Emergency readiness required Immunization Requirement: Must comply with WRNMMC immunization requirements for patient-facing roles. Security Requirement: Must pass federal background checks and complete credentialing through WRNMMC.
