Job Announcement 20260044 Lead Lifeguard CLOSING DATE: Open Until Filled APPLY ONLINE AT LONGMONTCOLORADO.GOV/JOBS Department: External Services Division: Community Enrichment Subdivision: Parks, Recreation & Open Space Hiring Range: $17.01- $18.31/ hour Monday-Friday between 4:45am-4:00pm or 2:45-8:45pm Saturday and Sunday between 6:45-9:00 am 3-30 hours per week Part Time Temporary Benefits include: Benefits required by law are included such as Jury & Witness Duty, Sick Leave, Social Security, and Medicare. Definition: Be a leader in lifeguarding the City owned and operated swimming pools by adhering to philosophies, policies and procedures of state, local and national agencies that certify or regulate lifeguards. Principal Duties: Duties may include but are not limited to the following: • Lifeguard alone or as part of a team; work together with other lifeguards scheduled to maintain a safe pool environment and problem solve issues. • Solely responsible for the safety operations at pools worked at, when working with one to two other staff members. • Recognize and respond quickly and effectively to all emergencies. Execute EAP's when necessary. • Administer first aid and CPR, including using an AED as needed. • Take initiative to move to best position while lifeguarding in order to see and reach all patrons in zones. • Ensure proper coverage of all swimmers in facility; promptly communicate with supervisor if additional coverage is needed. • Promote and participate in a safety conscious environment. • Enforce policies, rules and regulations and educate patrons to prevent accidents/incidents in and around the swimming pool area. • Make and maintain cordial and professional public relations with patrons. • Prevent injuries by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors. • Take chemical readings and report discrepancies/problems to supervisor. • Complete appropriate paperwork when necessary and submit it in a timely manner to immediate supervisor. • Maintain current certifications and all lifesaving skills as taught in the American Red Cross lifeguard program. • Attend and participate in staff meetings and/or trainings. • Perform Pump room walk throughs and equipment checks. Report discrepancies/problems to supervisor. • Open and close pool areas to the public depending on facility schedule, maintenance issues, or emergencies. • Perform daily maintenance duties and safety checks. • Performs essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances City Attributes. Working Environment: Work is primarily performed in a hot, humid environment. Work requires sufficient physical strength and demonstrated ability to rescue swimmers in danger of distress and/or drowning regardless of the situation, including possible drowning victim who resists rescue efforts. During the summer, work may be outdoors and will include exposure to all types of weather. The work requires extended periods of being alert, with sitting, standing or roving and constant scanning of swimmers. Vision must be sufficient to clearly see the entire pool area. Must be able to remain composed in emergency situations and make sound judgment decisions during both emergency and non-emergency situations. Hearing, speaking and good public relation skills are required. The work also entails working closely with co-employees and working as a team. Must have knowledge of and adhere to American Red Cross philosophies, policies and procedures. Must be able to work in an environment with poor acoustics and an array of distractions, including music and weather conditions. Qualifications: Has sound judgment. Can decipher between life threatening and non-life threatening emergencies. Good physical condition and ability to perform lifeguarding procedures as stated by the American Red Cross. Must be at least 16 years of age. Special Qualifications: Current certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguard and CPR/AED/First Aid for the Professional Rescuer required. Desired Certifications: American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguard, Oxygen Administration and ARC Water Safety Instructor (WSI).
