Under the direction of the Aquatics Supervisor, coordinates and supervises the daily operations of the aquatics area and assigned programs. Normal work week is Sunday-Thursday. Early mornings, days, evenings, nights, and weekends and holidays may be required or assigned as needed. JOB SUMMARY Assists Aquatic Supervisor with coordination, development, promotion, implementation, and evaluation of programs, services, and resources to meet division goals and objectives. Responsible for direct oversight of assigned aquatic facility including but not limited to staffing and scheduling, lesson programs, group rentals, cleaning and maintenance, repair requests, pump room preventative maintenance, chemical and supply inventory management and purchasing, facility safety. Coordinates, develops, and administers swim lessons, lifeguard training, and WSI classes. Plans and conducts in-service trainings to ensure compliance with certification requirements and to practice Emergency Action Plans. Prepares swim lesson marketing and promotional materials and schedules for publication in brochures and other media to increase program participation. Prepares work schedules for lesson instructors to meet class and program needs. Completes Lifeguard Staffing Schedule for all staff at multiple locations. Performs duties of swim instructor/lifeguard as needed. Conducts safety inspections as necessary to maintain a safe and user-friendly atmosphere for program participants. Promotes a safe and sanitary environment for aquatic staff and guests. Maintains assigned records and reports for the Aquatics Division. Maintains effective working relationships with guests, staff, and City employees. Ability to provide excellent customer service to all. Job assignments and duties may change based on program and division needs. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Assists Aquatics Supervisor with the supervision of aquatics staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the City's guidelines, policies, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning and directing work, addressing complaints, and resolving problems. Conducts interviews and makes recommendations for hiring and staffing needs. Prepares evaluations of staff for supervisory review. QUALIFICATIONS Current certifications for Lifeguarding and Lifeguard Instructor required with 3-5 years' experience lifeguarding, swim lesson instruction, and aquatics programming including swim lesson administration. Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university with major course work in parks and recreation, administration, physical education, or related field preferred. Minimum one year at Pool Manager level experience required. A combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the degree. Excellent organizational, customer service, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills. RecTrac knowledge and experience is preferred. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid driver's license with good driving record. Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification required. Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification required. Current American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor certification preferred. Current Water Safety Instructor certification preferred. Water Safety Instructor Trainer certification preferred. Aquatic Facility Operator or Certified Pool Operator certification required within 6 months of hire. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook; Internet use and Intranet use. Ability to work independently, multi-task, and self-initiate. Ability to work with people of all ages and abilities. Excellent organizational, customer service, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills. Ability to utilize tact when enforcing policies. Knowledge of materials used in aquatic programming and applications. RecTrac Knowledge and Experience is Preferred. MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED Computer, printer, copier, phone and related office equipment necessary to perform the essential functions of the job. City vehicle, whistle, rescue tube, spine board, rescue equipment and related items necessary for aquatics functions. Daily use of chlorine pool related chemical agents, and various other chemicals. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, bend, crouch, walk, swim, reach with arms and legs, climb, balance, kneel, crawl and talk loudly. The employee will frequently lift and or /move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth vision and ability to adjust focus.
