Job Announcement 20260046 Senior Lifeguard- Union Reservoir CLOSING DATE: Open Until Filled APPLY ONLINE AT LONGMONTCOLORADO.GOV/JOBS Department: External Services Division: Community Enrichment Subdivision: Parks, Recreation & Open Space Hiring Rate: $19.01/ hour Summer only, Monday-Sunday between 8am-8pm 3-30 hours per week Part Time Temporary Benefits include: Benefits required by law are included such as Jury & Witness Duty, Sick Leave, Social Security, and Medicare. Open Until Filled positions may close without advance notice. To be considered, please apply as soon as possible. Definition: Manage the swim beach and Lifeguards at Union Reservoir. Assist with rule enforcement, maintenance, and general operation of the reservoir to ensure a safe, fun and secure environment that maintains national, state, and local guidelines that pertain to the health and safety of the public swim beach. Principal Duties: Duties may include but are not limited to: • Overall responsible for all safety operations of swim beach and initiating change when necessary to maintain a safe environment • Enforcement of policies, rules and regulations governing the conduct of staff and patrons using the reservoir. • Lead, manage and assist Union Lifeguards. • Ensure proper placement of self and Lifeguards during rotations and ensure that staff are correctly scanning their zones and performing surveillance duties. • Ensure records and reports are completed as necessary and all applicable Health Codes and City policies are adhered to. • Direct and assist visitors and/or staff in non-emergency and emergency situations. • Oversee the proper paperwork of incidents that occur at or near the swim beach. • Maintain a clean and safe waterfront, pick up trash in and around swim beach, keep Aquatic Storage Sheds organized, teach staff cleaning expectations and maintain overall presentable appearance of Lifeguard areas. • Foster the success of Lifeguard staff through motivation, guidance, and education. Train Lifeguards to be proactive in anticipating customer needs, problems and seeking positive solutions. Routinely perform activities with Lifeguard staff to provide opportunities for practicing Waterfront Lifeguard skills. • Resolve conflict situations with patrons throughout Union, referring patrons to Rangers/Coordinators/Supervisors as needed. • Assist with training, scheduling, supervising and evaluating Lifeguard staff. • Handles and/or reports any problems in staff relationships to the Aquatic Coordinator or Supervisor. • Ensure attendance records are consistently and accurately filled out. • Communicate with Coordinator or Supervisor in decisions to close the swim beach for weather or other pressing situations. • Perform and assist in daily maintenance tasks such as cleaning and tidying Lifeguard spaces and keeping the beach clear from hazards. • Assist with time sheet accuracy and completeness by checking Lifeguard timesheets at the close of a shift. • Competition of job duties stated in Union Lifeguard Job Description. • Performs essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances City Attributes. Working Environment: Working conditions are performed either indoors or outdoors and involves exposure to hot and cold temperatures, high humidity, direct sun and/or moderate to loud background noise. Work requires frequent use of fingers and hands, walking, sitting, and standing, climbing, pulling, pushing, lifting, custodial duties, slippery/uneven walking surface. Constant walking in the sand, occasional running, jumping and diving as needed. Qualifications: A minimum of one full year or two summers of lifeguarding with increasing responsibility. Must be at least 16 years of age. Has sound judgement. Can decipher between life threating and non- life threatening emergencies. Good physical condition and ability to perform Waterfront Lifeguarding procedures as stated by the American Red Cross. Special Qualifications: Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred. Must possess current certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguard, Waterfront Certification and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. Current certification in American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor and/or American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor desirable.
