Job Summary: The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct patient care functions under the supervision of a registered nurse, focusing on residents in a neurobehavioral unit with diagnoses of Alzheimer's and dementia who exhibit unpredictable aggressive behaviors. The CNA assists residents with daily living activities, collects patient data, and maintains a clean and safe environment. Location:Newark, New York, United States Responsibilities: - Assist patients with routine activities of daily living, including ambulation, positioning, skin care, linen changes, feeding, hygiene, toileting, and incontinent care. - Collect and process urine, stool, and sputum specimens. - Obtain and record weights, vital signs (including pulse oximetry), pain assessments, and I&O. - Communicate patient status and report changes in condition to licensed professionals. - Perform incentive spirometry and assist with oxygen therapy. - Prepare rooms for admissions and discharges. - Assist nurses in emergency situations. - Maintain and clean equipment. - Perform oral and nasopharyngeal suctioning. - Perform blood sugar finger sticks. - Remove IV catheters per licensed nurse instruction. - Perform EKGs (department specific). - Answer unit phones and direct calls. - Perform data entry into electronic medical database systems and document patient care. - Coordinate equipment and supply needs and report malfunctions. Required Skills & Certifications: - CNA license - BLS Provider CPR certification - LTC experience - Assist with ambulation - Assist with feeding patients - Assist with turning and repositioning - Bed shampoo skills - Change linens (occupied, unoccupied) - Complete bed bath skills - Decubitus care prevention skills - Foot care skills - Incontinence/ elimination care skills - Mouth care skills - Perineal care (male/female) skills - Shave patient skills - Shower assistance skills - Skin care skills - Antiembolic stockings application skills - Bedpan/urinal assistance skills - Bedside commode assistance skills - Heel and elbow protection skills - Hospital beds operation skills - Hoyer lift operation skills - Oxygen tanks operation skills - Pulse oximeter operation skills - Transfer belt usage skills - Transfer sliding boards usage skills - Wheelchair assistance skills - Cleaning of equipment skills - Donning and removing PPE skills - Isolation precautions knowledge - Measure/record weight skills - Obtain blood pressure, including orthostatic, skills - Obtain temperature (oral, rectal, axillary, tympanic) skills - Routine catheter care (indwelling and external catheters) skills - Turning and positioning patient skills - Fluid restrictions knowledge - Lifting and pulling proper body mechanics knowledge - NPO status knowledge - Passive range of motion skills - Recognizing cardiac arrest knowledge - Safe patient transfers skills - Bathing/hygiene skills - Diet intake/calorie count skills - Drain output skills - Reporting change in patient condition skills - Urine output measures and records skills - 1 year of experience Preferred Skills & Certifications: - N/A Special Considerations: - Must be greater than 75 miles from the facility - Float required per facility need - Weekend coverage every other weekend Scheduling: - Days - 1:5 Ratios - Nights - 1:10 Ratios - Weekends - 1:7 Ratios
