About NLC's Operations and Infrastructure Departments NLC has made significant investments in its internal infrastructure to ensure operational excellence and organizational sustainability. These departments play a critical role in supporting the mission of NLC and its service to local governments: Center for Operations & Administration: Oversees internal systems, facilities, and organizational logistics. Center for Budget & Finance: Manages financial planning, budgeting, and fiscal accountability. Center for Digital Engagement, Marketing & Communications: Leads digital strategy, branding, media relations, and member communications. Executive Office & Human Resources: Supports executive leadership, talent development, and organizational culture. Position Overview Interns in NLC's Operations and Infrastructure departments will gain hands-on experience in nonprofit management, organizational strategy, and internal operations. This internship is ideal for students or recent graduates interested in the behind-the-scenes functions that power mission-driven organizations. Key Responsibilities Assist with administrative and operational projects across departments. Conduct research and data analysis to support strategic planning and process improvement. Help develop internal communications, reports, and presentations. Support event coordination, digital campaigns, or financial documentation, depending on placement. Participate in cross-functional meetings and contribute to team initiatives. Provide general support to department staff as needed. Qualifications Current undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduate in business administration, nonprofit management, communications, finance, human resources, or a related field. Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with tools like Salesforce, Adobe Creative Suite, or financial software is a plus. Interest in public service, nonprofit operations, federal policy or municipal governance. National League of Cities - Washington, D.C.
