Company : Allegheny Health Network Job Description : GENERAL OVERVIEW: As a vital member of our team, the Senior Radiation Physicist will play a key role in implementing the Radiation Safety and MR Safety programs at AHN. You will ensure departmental quality goals and objectives are met by delivering expert technical support that aligns with PA DEP, TJC, CMS, DOH regulations, and ACR accreditations. Key responsibilities include compliance testing for imaging equipment, particularly advanced modalities, and the development of quality control programs that monitor imaging equipment, patient dose metrics, and safety protocols. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES IMAGING EQUIPMENT COMPLIANCE PERFORMANCE EVALUATIONS: Conduct comprehensive annual and post-repair performance testing for imaging equipment to ensure regulatory compliance and optimal imaging quality, focusing on advanced imaging modalities such as mammography, CT, MRI, and nuclear imaging. Collaborate with Clinical Engineering to troubleshoot and resolve any equipment or image quality issues. (30%) RADIATION SHIELDING: Design and evaluate radiation shielding for new and existing imaging modalities/facilities, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and the protection of staff, patients, and visitors. (15%) IMAGING QUALITY CONTROL PROGRAM: Develop and manage quality control protocols for diagnostic imaging equipment with an emphasis on image quality monitoring and patient dose tracking. (10%) RADIATION ONCOLOGY RADIATION SAFETY COMPLIANCE: Oversee radiation safety compliance activities for radiation oncology, investigating reportable incidents and ensuring adherence to safety standards. (10%) POLICY AND PROCEDURE DEVELOPMENT: Create and review radiation safety and imaging physics policies focused on ensuring quality control and safety across advanced imaging modalities. (10%) TRAINING: Provide comprehensive radiation and MRI safety training for physicians, residents, and staff, ensuring compliance with PA-DEP and TJC regulations to enhance safety for patients and staff alike. (5%) SUPPORT FOR NEW IMAGING MODALITIES: Conduct analysis and develop testing and quality control protocols for new imaging technologies to maintain regulatory compliance and high standards of imaging quality. (5%) RADIATION EMERGENCY RESPONSE: Lead the response to internal and external radiation emergencies, including contamination incidents, ensuring effective monitoring, decontamination, dosimetry, and documentation. (5%) SUPPORT TO RADIATION PHYSICS STAFF: Collaborate with the RSO, Deputy RSO, and other staff to participate in regulatory inspections and assist with equipment testing and quality control activities. (5%) Other duties as assigned. (5%) QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Requirements: Master's Degree in Radiological Physics, Medical Physics, Health Physics, or a related scientific field. Board-Eligible or certified in one of the following areas, with certification required within 5 years of hire: Diagnostic Medical Physics, Nuclear Medical Physics, Certified Health Physicist, Medical Health Physics Certification, Magnetic Resonance Imaging Physics, or other relevant fields. A minimum of 3 years of experience in diagnostic imaging testing, quality control, regulatory compliance, and advanced radiation physics. Preferred Qualifications: 10 years of relevant experience in diagnostic imaging, regulatory compliance, and experience in advanced radiation physics dosimetry and shielding.
