Director of Dental Services Health Partners of Western Ohio Monday - Friday 8:00 - 4:30 pm POSITION PURPOSE: The Dental Director is responsible for administering, maintaining and expanding a program of primary and preventive dental care in community health center settings. The Dental Director supervises the dental staff of all community health centers. The Dental Director provides dental advice and counsel to the CEO. Completion of an accredited general practice residency program is preferred. Current Ohio DEA registration Current Ohio Dental license CPR-BLS (Basic Life support) required REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of public health principles and practices EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Minimum of five years clinical experience is preferred. SKILLS/ABILITIES: Ability to maintain appropriate clinical privileges is required. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills Administrative, Management, Quality Improvement, and Budget development experience Ability to work with a culturally-diverse staff and patient population Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with HPWO management and medical staff member ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES: Embraces an active and healthy lifestyle including smoke-free living, stress reduction, exercise, work/life balance and healthy dietary choices. Participates in and promotes health and wellness activities within the organization. Supports a patient-centered healthcare home where the patient-provider relationship is encouraged, with an emphasis on coordination of care and the establishment of a long-term healing relationship. Supports open patient access to and coordination of care that is supported by information technology. Promotes effective and appropriate use of integrated health services at Health Partners as part of a "Patient Centered Medical Home" (PCMH) model of care. Leads dental team in the examination of individuals requesting care, diagnoses their dental/oral conditions, prescribes and carries out, or directs others in carrying out, appropriate dental/oral treatment, or refers individuals for specialty consultation or treatment in conformance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines. Leads dental team in the documentation of patient-dentist transactions as they occur in the patient's dental record so that the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided. In addition, the Dental Director shall complete referrals, data collections instruments, and other records or paper work as shall be required from time to time by the Health Center. Educates the organization's dental team in the nature of oral health related conditions and in the general promotion of oral health related disease prevention. Serves as Lutheran Medical Center Dental Residency Director. Supervises school based dental sealant program. Works collaboratively with the COO and Center Directors to assure dental support team is functioning effectively. Serves as Chair of the Dental Quality Improvement Committee, and other health center committees as assigned. Prepares and submits monthly written reports on Dental Department issues, concerns, program status, initiatives, and progresses to the CEO. Prepares specific reports as requested by Health Partners' Chief Executive Officer. Assists in the provision of continuing education, on-the-job training, and the orientation of community health center staff as requested. Designs, develops, and implements appropriate Dental Department policies, procedures, and protocols which are in compliance with the most current accepted professional standards. Assists in the provision of technical assistance and health education to the community as requested. Assists in the preparation of an operating budget for the Dental Department and in conjunction with the CFO and oversees compliance with the Dental Department's budget. In addition, the Dental Director shall prepare special grant and project budgets as required to meet the goals of Health Partners. Participates in short and long-term program planning for the Dental Department and the agency, including the development of goals and objectives. Provides consultation to the CEO and COO, regarding dental and oral health issues. Travels when necessary to fulfill Health Partners' needs and attends meetings as necessary to represent Health Partners. Participates in the preparation of grant applications for the corporation and assumes primary responsibility for developing and implementing Health Partners' dental health care plan. Assists in the coordination and integration of Health Partners' dental programs and services with other Health Partners programs and services for the welfare of patients. Evaluates all dental staff members, annually as well as during probationary period. Sends completed evaluations to the Operations Manager to file in employee record. Supervises, advises, counsels, and disciplines all dental staff members in conjunction with the CEO, COO and Center Director. Assures that all required paperwork is completed and approves leaves of absences for dental staff along with COO. Adheres to the standards and policies of the Organizational Privacy/Security and Compliance Programs, including the duty to comply with applicable laws and regulations (HIPAA, OSHA, OIG guidelines, other State and Federal laws). This also includes reporting to the Board of Directors, Compliance Officer, Privacy Officer, supervisor or suggestion box, any suspected unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful acts or practices. Participates in recruitment/retention activities for HPWO as necessary. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is primarily sedentary, demanding sitting, walking, lifting, and bending. Those physical movements and the degree of mobility, manual dexterity, and hand-eye coordination commonly associated with duties in an office setting will be performed repetitively. This also includes bending, twisting, reaching, lifting, pulling, pushing, and walking. The ability to distinguish letters and symbols and utilize telephones, computer terminals, fax machines, and copiers is required.
