Job Description

Temporary Turf Specialist Starting Hourly Rate: $19.15 Nature of Work:Responsible for the maintaining golf course for use, including mowing, changing cups, watering and applying fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides Identification and diagnosis of turf disease and pests Preventative maintenance and overhauling equipment machinery Maintain signs, picnic tables, and tee markers Serve as crew leader, assisting in assigning of daily tasks to staff Inspect and adjust equipment and machinery Regulate and repair the irrigation system Responsible for seeding Operate all types of heavy and light golf course and turf equipment Drive crew and equipment between the two city courses Perform other related duties as assigned Required Qualifications:Must have a valid Driver's License Must have current pesticide applicator license Ability to follow and give oral and written communication Ability to operate grounds maintenance equipment including highly specialized turf equipment, pickup truck, plow, small hand tools, tractor, mower, dump truck, loader, backhoe, brush chipper, chainsaw, sprayer, utility cart, spreader, computer, digger, shovel, grinder, drill press and jack. Must obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification within 30 days of employment. The City offers CPR/AED and First Aid classes, which are free to Parks employees. Please note, your certification must be from an organization that has been approved by the Bureau of Community and Health Systems, Child Care Licensing Division. Please see link for list of approved organizations. Preferred Qualifications:Knowledge of the game of golf Knowledge of turf, including disease and mowing practices Knowledge of irrigation systems Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this job. Incumbent may be exposed to hazardous physical conditions (i.e., domestic and wild animals, confined spaces, heights, mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibration, etc.), poor atmospheric conditions (i.e., fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation), extreme temperatures (both hot and cold), inadequate lighting, and intense noise. Work may be performed on uneven terrain. Required to do heavy work exerting up to 100 lbs of force occasionally, and /or up to 50 lbs of force frequently, and /or up to 20 lbs of force constantly to move objects. Incumbent may be exposed to hazardous materials (chemicals, blood and other bodily fluids, etc.) and extreme temperatures.
