Details Hospital-based Progressive Care Unit (PCU) — a mixed acuity unit serving both PCU and Med/Surg Telemetry patients 48-bed unit with a patient population primarily consisting of COPD exacerbations, pneumonia, acute respiratory failure, PE, COVID-19, influenza, and patients with chest tubes, CPAP, and BiPAP Patient ratio of 1:4–5, with potential for 1:6 in high-census situations; no nurse is assigned more than one ventilated patient at a time Ventilator patients on this unit are chronic trach/vent patients Active drips include Dopamine, Cardizem, and Heparin Equipment in use includes chest tubes, vents, trachs, BiPAP/CPAP, and telemetry monitoring EMR: Epic; also uses Pyxis and SBAR communication framework 12-hour night shifts (18:45–07:15), 3 shifts per week 36-hour workweeks may be available 4 weekend shifts per 6-week period required, with potential for additional weekend shifts based on staffing needs Floating to like units is required Block scheduling can be accommodated when unit needs are met Requirements Active NC or compact RN license required Current BLS and ACLS certifications required NIHSS certification preferred Minimum 2 years of RN experience required Proficiency with IV starts, telemetry interpretation and dysrhythmia management, ventilator management, and CPAP/BiPAP required Must pass an EKG competency test prior to start Additional Information Unit is staffed with a team lead rounding in a 3:1 model, 2 respiratory therapists, and an assistant nurse manager on every shift including weekends Additional unit resources include an Admission/Discharge nurse, Vascular Access Team, Rapid Response Team (RRT), Code Team, and Behavioral Health Team CNAs support the unit at approximately a 9–10:1 ratio Orientation is 24 hours Scrubs not provided; white or navy blue scrubs required Unit cares for COVID-19 positive patients First-time travelers are welcome to apply Local candidates are accepted RTO is not permitted after booking and cannot be arranged on-site; call-offs or additional RTO may result in contract cancellation American Traveler Job ID #P-680414.
