RK&K's Construction Engineering Inspection and Construction Management Division is expanding! We are seeking motivated entry to mid-level Construction Inspectors to join our dynamic team. You will primarily work on heavy civil construction projects, including highways, bridges, and design-build initiatives. Key Responsibilities Support construction management efforts by inspecting and monitoring the construction of roadways and structures to ensure adherence to plans, specifications, and safety regulations. Engage in critical problem-solving to provide technical evaluations and effective solutions. Document and monitor contractor activities, communicating any non-compliance effectively. Utilize standard survey and field engineering equipment to verify lines, grades, dimensions, and elevations. Review the placement of various materials and conduct materials testing as necessary. Communicate effectively with project management, clients, stakeholders, and contractors across various platforms. Collaborate with clients, state and federal agencies, and engineering disciplines on construction initiatives. Perform field measurements and track daily work quantities. Maintain comprehensive project records and meet reporting requirements. Qualifications and Skills Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience with materials, standards, and specifications related to state highway projects. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including algebra and geometry. Proficient in computer software, including the Microsoft suite and construction documentation tools. Capable of independently managing small construction projects. Must pass a Criminal History Background Check (CHBC) and maintain an acceptable driving record. High School Diploma or GED is required. Certifications Required VDOT Required Material Certifications (or ability to obtain within 6 months), including: VDOT Soil and Aggregate Compaction - NICET LEVEL II VDOT Asphalt Field Level I & II ACI Concrete Field Level I, or WACEL Concrete I, or NICET LEVEL II VDOT Pavement Marking VDOT Slurry Surfacing VDOT Surface Treatment VDOT Flagger Certification VDOT GRIT (Guardrail Certification) VA DEQ - Certification for Erosion and Sediment Control Inspection VA DEQ - Stormwater Management (Inspector) Certification Nuclear Gauge Safety Training ATTSA Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Control 10 Hour OSHA Safety Training - OSHA Preferred Skills and Experience Experience in Construction Inspection, especially in roadway, asphalt, concrete, pavement markings, and structures. Familiarity with VDOT and local public agency processes. Experience with construction document management software, such as PlanGrid, AWP, and SharePoint.
