About the Role: The Flink Platform team is instrumental in developing a robust control system for Flink, utilizing advanced database storage to guarantee high reliability and operational efficiency. With a focus on creativity and excellence, this team plays a vital role in advancing Confluent's Data in Motion initiative, delivering invaluable solutions that adapt to the fast-evolving demands of stream processing. What You Will Do: Develop control plane services that manage Flink job lifecycles (submission, scaling, recovery). Create Kubernetes operators and orchestrators for efficient serverless resource management. Design APIs for job management, ensuring multi-tenancy and effective isolation. Adopt a comprehensive development approach, taking ownership of code quality, test coverage, documentation, and the long-term maintainability of your team's components. Designing Components: Not only will you implement parts of the Flink Control Plane, but you will also contribute to drafting design specifications, engaging in discussions, and facilitating decisions with stakeholders. Team Collaboration: Actively participate in team processes, lead meetings, and initiate improvements where appropriate, including being part of on-call rotations. Mentoring: Guide less experienced engineers in control plane architecture as they begin their journey in the community, supporting junior developers transitioning to serverless Apache Flink. What You Will Bring: Over 10 years of relevant software development expertise. Technical Expertise: Proficient understanding of distributed systems orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes, control loops). Experience in building scalable control planes, API services, or cloud-native infrastructures. Familiarity with containerization, networking, and resource isolation. Problem-Solving Skills: Exceptional analytical abilities, capable of translating complex requirements into practical solutions.
