Job Description Cafe Assistant Manager: non-exempt, full-time; on average 35 hours per week. Reports to Cafe Manager. Summary The Omega Café is an independent facility within the Omega Food & Beverage department. The Omega Café provides a welcoming, shared space where participants, staff, faculty and the public can gather, enjoy light meals, snacks, and beverages. The Café also offers space for workshops and special events to meet and is host to book signings, concerts, and craft fairs. The Cafe Assistant Manger is responsible for upholding the maintenance, cleanliness, and functionality of the Cafe at all times. The Assistant Manager sets and holds a professional tone, facilitates training, holds staff accountable to their roles and schedules, and strives to sustain a fulfilling work experience. The Assistant Manager ensures the service, presentation, and clean-up of the Cafe as well as positive guest interactions. Create an environment of compassionate service, welcoming hospitality. Follow and enforce New York State Department of Health codes, as well as, all HACCP regulations for storage and cooling. Manage and support Cafe production and maintenance in all areas. Assist in menu development. Maintain and operate Point-of-Sale system, and assist in the creation of updates for special programs. Assist in all areas of Cafe production, including an active participation in carrying out the duties of individual staff. Maintain an active knowledge of all aspects of the menu, including purveyors, ingredients and available choices. Attend regular department meetings. Maintain personal safety and manage the safety of others while working around knives, equipment with moving blades, open stovetop flames, hot oven, steam and oil. Maintain all inventory - both sale items and dish inventory, including monitoring loss or breakage and anticipating needs for special events. Review deposits and deliver to Accounting daily. Assist Manager to create weekly schedule that adequately and efficiently meets Cafe needs. Keep Cafe Staff informed around seasonal trends, upcoming Cafe, Omega Food & Beverage and general Omega happenings, and any protocol changes. Maintain and respect health boundaries with managers, coworkers, program participants and community members. Hold space for staff ideas and feedback and encourage connection and interaction between staff members. Integrate Omega's core values and manager feedback into work performance. Familiarize staff with, embody and consistently enforce Omega Food & Beverage policies and procedures. Provide welcoming and expedient service to all patrons. Lead by example. Prioritize the service experience. Hold staff accountable to their roles and provide regular feedback. Other duties as assigned by Supervisor. Supervisory Responsibility This position supervises the Cafe staff including: Shift Coordinator(s), Barista/Cashiers, Head Cook(s) and Cooks. Responsibilities include: training staff, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, recognizing achievements and addressing performance issues, addressing complaints and resolving problems. Manage inventory and place orders as directed by the Cafe Manager. Assist the Cafe Manager in keeping Point-of-Sale (POS) system up to date. Work Details This position functions in the Cafe on the Omega Campus. This is a full-time position, 35 hours a week. Weekend and evening availability are required. Physical Requirements Ability to frequently move items that weigh 30-50 pounds for various needs. Ability to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. Ability to traverse a hilly campus in diverse weather conditions. Ability to position self to perform diverse job tasks as necessary. Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Ability to work in a constant sate of alertness and safe manner. Ability to observe details at close range. Required Experience/Qualities At least 1 year supervisory experience. Minimum, 2 years, experience working in the food service industry. ServSafe Certification preferred. Some administrative experience and basic accounting skills. Ability to work comfortably in a fast-paced environment. Timely, reliable and service oriented individual. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Team player. Seasonal staff receive a compensation package that includes: Wage Indoor housing Three delicious meals per day in our mostly vegetarian Dining Hall Access to Omega's staff benefits This compensation package is at minimum equivalent to the New York State minimum wage.
