Fountain Valley School, a selective and diverse boarding school, educates 250 students in grades 9–12 on a beautiful 1,100-acre campus in Colorado Springs, CO. Founded in 1930, the School provides a rigorous, global curriculum in academics, arts, athletics, and the outdoors.Position Summary:Fountain Valley School seeks experienced and dynamic educators for a high school science position. This position reports directly to the chair of the Science department, and is responsible for teaching classes to students in 9-12 grade.Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:Teaching Duties: Teach 4 sections of high school scienceDemonstrate an ability to foster sustained collaboration and professional growth within a departmentShow an appreciation for the craft of teaching along with a passion for science as a disciplineInterest in and ability to teach in two disciplines (ideally ecology, and one of chemistry, biology, environmental science, or physics). In addition, an elective series in the science department is a possibility.Regular, reliable in person attendanceOther duties as assigned Other Duties: Coach two seasons of athletics/afternoon activitiesServe as an adviser to approximately six studentsParticipate in a class level retreat along with other faculty membersParticipate in committees as assignedParticipate in co-leading an Interim trip (Spring experiential learning trip)Serve as a member of a weekend and weeknight duty team (1 weeknight per week, and 9 weekends per year)Transportation of students to and from activities using a non-CDL school vehicle Qualifications: Find joy in working with adolescents and in school lifeEngage with energy, kindness, and a sense of humorExperience enhancing classroom learning with appropriate technology toolsDemonstrate cultural competency and skills engaging with and learning from people with diverse backgrounds and experiencesDemonstrate skills in communication and interpersonal relations within and across multiple constituenciesBachelor’s degree in a science major; advanced degree or equivalent experience in an independent boarding/day school environment preferredMust possess and maintain a valid driver's license and/or obtain a Colorado license within 30 days of hire. Working Conditions Environment: office and indoor classroom working with some outdoor eventsPhysical demands: able to sit and stand for at least 8 hours per day; must be able to lift 40 lbs.Proficiency in LMS Blackbaud OnCampus and Google Educational Suite Apps preferred Salary: $43,000 - $60,000 - depending on experience and educationBenefits:We believe in supporting the whole person — professionally and personally.
