Job Description Under general supervision assists the Manager and Assistant Manager of Respiratory Carein the oversite and coordinating of daily activities and operations of the respiratory therapy department. He/ she is responsible for maintaining operational workflow of the department for the shifts they are working and will provide direct patient care as an expert clinician. Assist with overseeing supplies, equipment and personnel including assisting in staff development, training and orientation of new hired and provides input on staff performance. Ensures adherence to organizational and department policies and procedures, and accepted protocols. Collaborates with the health care team, patients and families, in the delivery of safe, effective quality patient care. Responsibilities Make and readjust staffing assignments as needed to best meet patient needs, considering patient acuity, census and staff competencies. Ensure appropriate staffing for upcoming shifts. Ensure appropriate coverage of patient care by regularly rounding to each patient care area and checking in with RT staff. Work with Assistant Manager to make assignments supportive of competency completion and ongoing learning for staff. Communicate coverage about transport with appropriate departments. Hold staff accountable for professional behavior and teamwork at all times. Share process improvement ideas and unresolved issues with Manager/ Assistant Manager to support improved functioning of the department. Works with Manager/ Assistant Manager/Educator to ensure Respiratory policies/ procedures/ protocols are current and evidence based. Participates in the performance appraisals process and assists with staff goal attainment. Assists in data collection, quality improvement initiatives and research activities Meets all role responsibilities outlined in the Respiratory Therapist Job Description. Adapts procedures, processes, tools and techniques to meet requirements of the job. Contributes with new ideas and develops documentation related to process improvement which may also include involvement/leading meetings for related functional and departmental task forces and projects. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors that are consistent with the Connecticut Children's standards.
