Yes Travel None Security Clearance Required Not Required Job Description Union position - Scope of work signatory to FRNP CBA Position Overview Perform duties related to radiological control under the direction of management for the safety and recognizance measurements of the facility. Typical Essential Functions Implement the day-to-day programmatic aspects of the Radiological Protection Plan. Perform air sampling, radiation surveys, radioactive contamination control and monitoring, access control, posting and labeling, completion and management of records, responding to accidents and emergencies, vehicle and equipment control, instrumentation source check, personnel decontamination, and minor equipment decontamination during the course of surveying. Generate radiological data records and reports. Participate in the formulation of action plans in response to identified deficiencies. Perform detailed technical operations in compliance with written work plans, protocols, and procedures. Have the ability to assist with the writing of work permits and other associated work documents. Perform other duties, as assigned. Radiological Control Technicians (RCTs) may be assigned to support specific technical programs based on experience and training. In order to gain experience in these areas, RCTs who do not have the required training or experience to function independently in these areas may be assigned to a technical program area. These RCTs must operate under the guidance of a fully qualified RCT in that specific technical area. Specific examples of technical program assignments are these: Senior RCTs Assigned to Dosimetry Program Issues thermoluminescent dosimeter (TLDs)/personal nuclear accident dosimeters (PNADs); Schedules, issues, collects, and ships bioassay samples; Supports development of dose estimates; Performs dose tracking; Maintains dosimetry databases and personnel exposure files; Assists in maintenance and deployment of personal and nuclear accident dosimeters; Maintains the radiological restriction logs; Submits dosimetry reports to supervisors and management; Follows all requirements that are applicable to a U.S. Department of Energy Laboratory Accreditation Program and procedures; and Performs other dosimetry-related duties, as assigned. Duties for Senior RCTs Assigned to Instrument Program: Operates and calibrates portable/field radiological counting and air sampling equipment; Performs minor maintenance of radiological survey and air sampling equipment; Calibrates and performs operations checks and maintenance on personal contamination monitors; Assists in radioactive source leak tests and inventories; Revises and updates instrument information in the on-site instrument tracking database; Performs shipping and receiving of instruments to calibration vendors; Performs inventory and issues radiological field supplies, as needed; Assists in quality control reviews of instrument related records and reports Assists in operation of laboratory-based radiological instrumentation and other analytical type instruments, as required; Possesses the ability to write work documents associated with radiological laboratory and portable instrumentation; and Performs other instrument program related duties, as assigned. Duties for Senior RCTs Assigned to In-Situ Object Counting System (ISOCS) Program Operates and calibrates the ISOCS system; Performs routine maintenance of the system; Develops mathematical models representing various counting geometries; Performs daily quality assurance/quality control checks on the system; Performs energy and efficiency calibrations on the system; Reviews analytical data generated by the system; Loads data into various databases, as requested; Follows ISOCS-related procedures and guidance; and Writes work documents associated with operation or calibration of ISOCS equipment Oversees and guides radiological support and radiological workers; Performs source check of instrumentation; Assists in the training of junior technicians in the use of radiological instrumentation; Mentors/trains junior technicians in the performance of survey duties, job coverage, posting and labeling, and air sampling; Manipulates computer spreadsheets and/or databases for purpose of data reduction, presentation, and review; Reviews and qualifies health physics (HP) data results and calculations (surveys, air monitoring,etc.); Explains data results to non-HP personnel; Uses word processing software; and Documents survey and data collection results appropriately. Job Requirements General Requirements Have at least three years' Senior experience in applied HP or applicable training as the base qualification for Senior RCT. Experience requirements may be satisfied by an A.S. or B.S. degree in a related field. Note: Education may substitute for only up to one year of the base experience. National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists (NRRPT) certification is preferred. Senior Instrument RCT requires at least one year of applicable work experience in instrument program related work activities as described above. Senior Dosimetry RCT requires at least one year of applicable experience in dosimetry program related work activities as described above. Senior ISOCS RCT requires at least one year of applicable experience in ISOCS use and calibration. Successful completion of the RAD WORKER TRAINING: RAD Core Academic, RAD Site Specific, RAD II Practical. Reach for and manipulate objects, hand or power tools, materials, and/or equipment. Lift and carry objects such as tools and materials weighing up to approximately 50 pounds. Stand, walk, or sit for long periods. Stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and/or crawl frequently for extended periods of time. Climb, work on ladders, scaffolds, other facilities, and equipment, work at heights and confined spaces. Able to be respirator certified and wear necessary PPE Read and understand blueprints and/or schematic diagrams. Normal (corrected) near visual acuity. Ability to detect safety alarms through audio and visual means. Work for extended periods in low or high temperatures. Pass a pre-employment background and drug-screen examination, as well as periodic random drug screens. General awareness training of asbestos and PCB Could be included in the temperature extremes monitoring program Maintain Senior radiological qualifications.
