Description Position at PETS Referral Center Registered Veterinary Technician Surgery (Relief) Job Summary: The following are duties and expectations related to working as member of PETS Team. To provide support to our Surgery Service with emphasis on patient care, and client interface. Continual effort to obtain or maintain confident skill level with but not limited to: extensive nursing care and skills, CPR assistance, imaging procedures and protocols, surgery procedures and protocols, excellent client service, invoicing, the euthanasia process, laboratory services, outside services, treatment sheet details, DVMax, anesthesia protocols, appropriate protocol for transmissible diseases, proper use of all hospital equipment, use of professional medical language, leadership and mentoring skills. Provide excellent patient care, and professional/compassionate client communication. Follow PETS policies, encourage others to do so, support the chain-of-command, discourage gossip and negative conversations and/or actions that lower moral. Maintain a positive and professional demeanor while at work. Direct other team members in a professional manner at all times. Receive direction from the doctors and management team in a professional manner at all times. Effectively coordinate shifts to ensure proper patient care and client service. Effectively monitor shift transitions. Treat all animals, clients and co-workers with compassion and respect. Attention to detail and neatness with treatment sheets and all written correspondence in the hospital. Wear professional attire while at work and follow PETS uniform requirements. Attention to hospital cleanliness both inside and out. Be able to lift a 40# dog by yourself. Safely restrain dogs, cats, and other animal patients. Use safety equipment when needed - cat bags, muzzles, protective towel wraps, wet floor signs, and back supports. Always ask for help if you do not feel confident or competent to work with a patient. Follow safety protocols and inform managers immediately of any unsafe conditions and/or practices. Attend all scheduled staff meetings. Attend CE whenever possible (online, internal opportunities, outside opportunities, reading materials, etc.) Be capable of working in a fast-paced medical environment for extended periods of time. Due to the nature of our 24 hours hospital setting, some shifts may include nights, weekends & holidays. Also, some shifts may go beyond the scheduled times due to heavy caseloads. The above is only a partial list of job responsibilities. In addition, you may be asked to perform other tasks related to this position as needed. Team Support & Training Support onboarding and training of new/existing team members Communicate professionally with coworkers, clients, and management Accept and follow direction from doctors and leadership Able to take and give constructive feedback Maintain a positive, respectful attitude at all times Uphold hospital policies and encourage others to do the same Committed to ongoing learning and professional growth Client Service Communicate with compassion and professionalism Release patients with care and attention to detail Keep client areas clean, welcoming, and stocked with comforts Work collaboratively with the Shift Coordinator and DVMs to ensure accurate and timely financial and medical updates Facilitate client and patient visits in a way that supports hospital flow and does not disrupt treatments or clinical operations. Facility Maintenance Participate in all housekeeping tasks including mopping, trash removal, laundry, and general cleaning Keep all areas-exam rooms, wards, radiology, procedure rooms-organized and clean Maintain fully stocked treatment areas and patient wards Maintain exterior grounds, including around dumpsters and recycling Uphold all safety procedures and report hazards immediately Shifts & Availability Be flexible with scheduling, including nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime. Specifically looking for someone who is willing to work Friday.
