Overview The role of the Respiratory Coordinator is to organize, direct and ensure the day-to-day effective operations of the Respiratory department. This individual is responsible for directing the daily workflow by assigning work, supervising and organizing the daily work schedule and collaborates with RT staff to achieve maximum utilization of services. The Coordinator will participate in and monitor the Quality Assurance (QA) and continuous quality improvement activities of the department. The Coordinator will serve as the educator to staff and other internal and external customers of Covenant HealthCare. The Coordinator, under the direction of the Manager, is expected to actively participate in recommending the selection/hiring of new employees and assist with assigned employee performance evaluations and corrective actions. The Respiratory Coordinator must demonstrate excellent customer service performance in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant HealthCare and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation. Responsibilities Conducts and/or works in conjunction with the manager on employee management issues including hiring, corrective action and evaluation of employees. Completes documentation, investigation and interventions as appropriate for corrective action and/or employee development with manager support. Assists in time sheet documentation for payroll. Coaches, mentors, encourages and motivates employees. Promotes employees to work together as an effective team. Serves as a resource to the employees. Monitors, directs and oversees activities of Respiratory Care. Ensures procedures are in place to support the department. Creates and monitors daily staff assignments and ensure assignments are completed. Monitors workflow and makes appropriate changes. Ensures appropriate scheduling and utilization of staff. Recommends and develops new procedures to improve services. Assists in new procedure development, implementation and review in conjunction with other coordinators and Managers. Assists in establishing and documenting competencies. Instructs staff and trains new employees where appropriate. Monitors improvement reports and recommends corrective action to ensure continuous quality improvement. Chairs unit committees and task forces. Participates on assigned leadership initiatives/committees. Assists in budget planning and monitoring. Participates in strategic planning to improve patient outcomes. Participates in strategic planning to improve patient outcomes. Participates in Quality Assurance measures and in planning and implementing identified improvements. Integrates continual performance improvement into the structure and processes of the unit and the daily practice of team members to achieve desired clinical and fiscal outcomes. Aligns all unit activities with unit, department, and institution performance improvement goals, and channels resources to high leverage opportunities for performance improvement. Review productivity tools daily. Review revenue reports daily. Review monthly budget reports. Review quarterly productivity reports. Participates in benchmarking activities. Demonstrates excellent customer service in all contacts with internal and external customers. Supports Covenant's Patient Centric Commitment, The Compact between Covenant HealthCare and its Medical Staff, and the pursuit of High Reliability. Participates in forming and implementing plans to improve employee satisfaction. Intervenes in potential problematic interactions involving staff, physicians, patients and visitors and communicates with team members, involving the managers appropriately. Qualifications EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Required: Registration by the National Board for Respiratory Therapy as a Registered Respiratory Therapist. Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Business or a Health related field 3 - 5 years in a leadership role or equivalent Minimum of 2 years as a RRT KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES Technical knowledge consistent with RRT registration Excellent verbal and written communication and public relations skills Personal computer skills and MS software applications Able to flex work schedule in order to meet department and staffing needs Proven ability to work under stressful situations with a positive attitude Ability to lead and mentor staff WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS Ability to maintain punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards. Constant standing, walking, hearing and near vision. Frequent lifting up to 10 lbs. Frequent talking, midrange vision, depth perception, visual accommodation and color vision. Occasional lifting up to 100 or more lbs. Occasional sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, handling and field of vision.
