How will this role impact First Command? First Command is seeking a dynamic leader focused on delivering Intelligent Automation capabilities by integrating Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and AI engineering into a high-performing team. This leader will: Oversee the execution of diverse automation solutions including rule-based, probabilistic, and hybrid systems. Align automation initiatives with enterprise priorities and maintain a strong focus on delivery excellence. Emphasize responsible innovation while embedding risk-aware practices throughout the automation lifecycle. What will the employee do in this role? Leadership & People Management Lead, mentor, and cultivate a cross-functional team of RPA developers and AI engineers. Encourage a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement in responsible AI practices. Provide coaching, performance management, and career development for team members. Promote adherence to engineering best practices within RPA and AI development. Integrate responsible automation principles into team development and onboarding processes. Product Management & Ownership Act as Product Owner for the Intelligent Automation capability. Maintain and prioritize the automation roadmap across various solution types. Ensure effective backlog management with clear feature definitions and refined user stories. Collaborate with Architecture and Quality teams to uphold engineering standards and best practices. Guarantee compliance of automation solutions with privacy, security, and regulatory standards. Maintain documentation and audit trails to support compliance and incident management. Stakeholder Engagement Work alongside business leaders to identify automation opportunities across RPA, advanced analytics, and AI-driven workflows. Lead discovery workshops to thoroughly understand business requirements and challenges. Translate business needs into actionable technical requirements for RPA and AI teams. Communicate project progress, risks, KPIs, and timelines to stakeholders and senior leadership. Technical Oversight & Delivery Management Oversee the development, deployment, and continuous enhancement of automation solutions. Ensure best practices are followed in RPA, AI model development, security, and responsible AI guidelines. Monitor performance metrics and the scalability of deployed automation products. Guide the integration of AI solutions and RPA workflows into cohesive automation products. Drive standardization, reusability, and comprehensive documentation across automation assets. Implement regular assessments to mitigate technical and operational risks. Support ongoing feedback and report compliance metrics to executive leadership. Who will this employee lead? Manage a team of 3 to 8 engineers with daily supervision and performance management. Assist in recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding new team members. Encourage professional development and upskilling in RPA and AI engineering practices. Track team performance metrics related to governance, risk, and compliance standards. Ensure documentation, risk awareness, and compliance are embedded in onboarding and performance management processes. What skills & qualifications will this employee need? Education Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields is preferred. Certifications as a Product Owner, Product Manager, or Scrum Master are preferred. Certifications in RPA tools (UiPath, Power Platform) and/or AI/ML engineering are preferred. Training or certification in AI governance, risk management, or compliance frameworks is a plus. Work Experience 3+ years of experience in managing technical, automation, or AI-focused teams. 6-8 years of work experience in Information Technology, automation engineering, or AI/ML engineering. Experience implementing GRC processes for AI and automation initiatives is a plus. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Hands-on experience with automation development (e.g., UiPath, Microsoft Power Platform). Understanding of modern AI/ML concepts, including LLM-based agents and orchestration frameworks. Experience with backlog management and Agile/Scrum methodologies. Excellent communication skills for effective engagement with both technical and non-technical audiences. Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities. Knowledge in developing metrics, reporting, and frameworks for value realization. Ability to apply governance, risk management, and compliance principles to projects. Maintaining documentation and audit trails for AI and automation assets. Familiarity with responsible AI principles including accountability, fairness, data privacy, and transparency. Preferred: Experience in the Financial Services domain. Familiarity with model governance and MLOps practices. Nice to Have: Conducting risk assessments and fairness audits for AI systems. Knowledge of current regulatory requirements for AI applications.
