This role will perform all duties and functions of an Ophthalmic Technician I. Effective execution of this role will require the ability to multitask and respond to the needs of the patients, doctors, and other staff efficiently and calmly. The Ophthalmic Technician II may also be required to support training efforts of other clinical staff as needed.Responsibilities Make introductions and establish rapport with patientsInitiate patient evaluation, documenting the chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, and all pertinent ocular findings accurately and in accordance with compliance guidelines.Perform pre-exam testing to include visual acuity assessment, including pinhole and glare testing, confrontational visual field testing, assess extra ocular muscles, pupillary evaluation, tonometry, assess angles, pupillary dilation, and all other patient services as requested by the physician including specialty tests such as color vision screening, stereopsis, and dry eye testingPerform lensometry and specialized testing such as visual fields, keratometry, A/B scans, and ophthalmic photography optical coherence tomography (OCT), and optical biometryAdditional testing as requested by doctorPerform retinoscopy and refractometry. Assist with minor surgical procedures or laser treatments in the officeAssist with fitting contact lenses and instruct patients in care and insertion of lensesComplete requests for prescription refills as authorized by physician, with full documentation in patient chartEducate patients regarding administration of medications and pre- and post-operative instructions as directed by physicianCheck temperature of medical refrigerator dailyMaintain and conduct inventory of medications and suppliesAssist with maintenance of clinical examination equipmentClean surgical instruments in preparation for sterile processingInspect instruments periodically for damage, send for repair, and request a replacement, as necessaryOpen and close exam lanes daily, ensuring that equipment is wiped down in an appropriate manner and as per office procedures, battery powered instruments are seated properly in re-charge wells, slit lamps and projectors are switched off under coversFollow all safety procedures as per guidelinesPrioritize building and maintaining a positive relationship with doctors and clinical colleaguesExecutes duties of position in a professional and courteous mannerHandles sensitive information in a confidential mannerPerform other tasks and duties as assigned Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent requiredProficient with medical and ophthalmic terminologyStrong organization with attention to detailAbility to accurately check visual acuity, applanation, history taking, pupil assessment, EOM’s, and confrontation field of visionExcellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, staff, managers, and doctorsBasic computer literacy requiredHighly energetic with a positive attitudeMust be willing to travel to other offices occasionally to meet the demands of businessMust be able to walk and stand for eight hoursMust be able to type or write legibly in a dimly lit settingFive years as Ophthalmic Technician requiredCertified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) requiredCertified Ophthalmic Scribe (OSC) preferredCertified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) requiredTwo-three years in multi-specialty clinic preferredMust be proficient with the following skills: History takingVisual Acuities IOP (via applanation tonometry and tonopen)Auto RefractionManual Refraction (plus and minus cyl)LensometryTopographyBiometry (Lenstar, IOL Master, and Immersion A-scan Knowledge of Ophthalmic Surgical Procedures (Cataract Surgery, LASIK, CXL, SLT, Yag Capsulotomy, iStent, Trabeculectomy, etc.)Knowledge of ophthalmology billing/coding preferredNextGen experience preferred In Turn We Will Provide Benefits to full time team members that include comprehensive medical, dental and optical coverage, 401K and short- and long-term disabilityCompany paid life insurancePaid holidays and generous paid time offPaid parking where applicableTeam oriented working environment where you are heard and respectedClear career ladder opportunities ESP#2
