Key Responsibilities: Serve as the primary contact for all facilities-related issues and manage critical systems including switchgear, generators, UPS, and cooling systems. Perform root cause analyses on equipment failures and troubleshoot issues within established SLAs. Provide mentorship and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians while collaborating with Facility Managers to shape team culture. Develop and implement new standard practices for operational teams and vendors. Assist in the construction of new facilities and projects aimed at enhancing current operational efficiency. Be available for routine maintenance and respond to emergency situations outside of standard business hours. Communicate complex technical information effectively to non-technical audiences. Work with IT and business leaders to optimize safety, performance, reliability, and efficiency. Ensure all safety protocols are strictly followed by both staff and vendors. Establish benchmarks for building performance, conduct comprehensive analyses, and generate operational reports. Utilize Microsoft Office tools to support daily tasks. Physical Requirements: Ability to regularly lift/move up to 39 pounds independently and participate in group lifts for heavier items. Maintain balance and perform tasks on ladders and other heights. Engage in various physical activities including walking, climbing, bending, and using hands effectively. Work in environments requiring provided ear protection. A Day in the Life: The Chief Engineer will be hands-on in troubleshooting essential electrical and mechanical equipment ensuring 99.999% uptime for data center operations. This involves managing a wide array of systems from generators to chillers, along with supporting safety and automation systems. You'll direct and train operational technicians, manage projects from start to finish, and work with both local and global support teams. Why AWS? Basic Qualifications: 3+ years of vendor management experience. 4+ years of experience in a critical environment. 5+ years of experience in data center engineering or operations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel). Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field. Preferred Qualifications: 3+ years of project management or construction experience. Electrical or mechanical Journeyman License. Operating engineering licenses such as DC II, DC III, or equivalent. Location: Positions available in Mesa, AZ, Boardman, OR, Hermiston, OR, Umatilla, OR, and Sterling, VA with salaries ranging from $96,000 to $166,300 annually.
