Street Technician

Job purpose Working under the direct supervision of a Team Leader, this position carries out tasks related to maintenance of facilities and street rights-of-way and public infrastructure as defined by the Director of Public Works. Duties and responsibilities SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS This position carries out labor activities under the guidance of department supervisors. Technician will use tools and operate equipment as trained for normal streets maintenance. SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS The nature of the work in the department requires personnel to be available on an emergency basis and to work extended hours as required. Other situations of a non-emergency nature will require activity beyond the normal workday. Qualifications This position requires a valid driver's license, and the ability to lift, walk, and climb in all field conditions. It requires basic reading comprehension, and the ability to communicate verbally. No prior experience is necessary. OSHA 10 certification within one year of hire, updated every 5 years. New employees shall receive a performance review every six (6) months after initial hire to assess their ability to work independently and demonstrate proficiency in the operations of all customary tools and equipment to determine eligibility for pay increases up to the maximum allowed under the current salary ordinance of the Town of Zionsville. Environmental Conditions and Safety Concerns Incumbent performs a majority of duties outdoors and in a vehicle, and is frequently exposed to, normal hazards associated with maintaining rights-of-way, such as machinery, traffic, noise, grease, dirt, dust, vehicle fumes, blood borne pathogens and other infectious materials, extreme temperatures and inclement weather. Safety precautions must be followed at all times to avoid injury to self and others. Working conditions The Street Technician I works in a shop/field environment with exposure to dust, odors and noise. The Street Technician I will complete tasks outdoors in all types of weather. Will be required to work outside of normal business hours. Physical Requirements Periods of standing for extended periods of time Lifting a minimum of 30 pounds Direct reports None.
