Data Center Operations Technician

Location Hermiston,OR Description ESC has an exciting opportunity for a Data Center Operations Technician to support critical infrastructure operations within an Amazon data center environment in Hermiston, OR. This 3-month contract role is responsible for maintaining and optimizing mission-critical facility systems while ensuring reliability, safety, and operational efficiency. The engineer will support day-to-day data center engineering operations including preventative maintenance, vendor coordination, performance monitoring, and infrastructure management. This is a great opportunity for an early-career engineer or technical professional who wants to gain hands-on experience supporting complex electrical and mechanical systems in one of the largest cloud infrastructure environments in the world. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically curious, and comfortable working in a fast-paced operational environment while collaborating with internal teams and external vendors. Responsibilities • Support the operation and maintenance of critical facility infrastructure within an Amazon data center • Assist with preventative and corrective maintenance activities across mechanical and electrical systems • Monitor and maintain systems including switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, CRAC units, and building monitoring systems • Assist with vendor and subcontractor coordination to ensure work is completed according to operational standards and procedures • Track performance benchmarks and assist in preparing operational reports on facility performance and reliability • Collaborate with IT teams and business leaders to coordinate projects, support capacity planning, and maintain system reliability • Assist with facility improvement initiatives and infrastructure efficiency projects • Support asset management and inventory tracking for facility equipment and materials • Contribute to maintaining a safe, reliable, and high-availability environment for data center operations • Assist leadership with operational documentation and process improvements Required Experience • Bachelor's degree or technical degree (trade school or military training) in a related field • 0-2 years of relevant experience in engineering, facilities, or technical operations environments • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Strong organizational and time management abilities • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced operational environment • High attention to detail and commitment to operational safety and reliability Preferred Experience • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline • Experience supporting data center or critical infrastructure environments • Familiarity with electrical and mechanical systems such as UPS, generators, cooling systems, and power distribution equipment • Exposure to data center operations or facilities management • Basic understanding of network design, infrastructure layout, or low-voltage cabling systems
