This is accomplished by operating heavy equipment, patrolling City streets, identifying problematic roadways, determining the best way to repair roadway and sidewalk damage, retrieving appropriate equipment and tools, filling potholes with the proper mix, sealing cracks in streets, and repairing sidewalks. Other duties may include providing maintenance support by retrieving all debris from the City's streets, assisting other departments as needed, completing special projects as requested, and interfacing with other City employees and citizens. This position does not provide direction to other employees. Other duties may include performing vehicle and equipment maintenance and interacting with City employees and citizens. This position does not give direction to other employees. Essential Functions The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. Completes street maintenance by operating various heavy equipment, observing problematic cracks in streets, determining the best way to complete repair, preparing crack seal machine, inserting tar into the machine, heating hoses, blowing cracks with air to remove debris, rocks, and dirt, utilizing crack seal machine to fill cracks with tar, and documenting all work completed. Repairs potholes and other damage to the City's streets by operating motor vehicles, observing the City's roadways, identifying problematic roadway hazards, retrieving appropriate equipment and tools from trucks, using a saw to cut around potholes in street, operating steel roller to roll base, tacking outer edges, filling pothole with concrete or asphalt mix to patch street damage, utilizing loader machinery to back drag, raking area to obtain smooth edges, maneuvering steel roller over area to compact mix, and documenting work completed. Maintains the City's sidewalks by identifying problematic areas, breaking sidewalks, setting forms for new sidewalks, filling them with concrete mix, ensuring the shape of the sidewalk, installing rebar such as dowel bars, operating various equipment, and documenting all work completed. Maintains the City's streets by patrolling streets and related areas for litter and debris, collecting debris from streets, greenbelts, right-of-ways, underpasses, and overpasses within the City's limits, storing debris in a vehicle, operating equipment to clear streets from debris, transporting debris to collection facilities, maintaining a log of materials collected, and documenting actions and procedures as required. Assists other departments as needed by providing maintenance support to Parks and Recreation, Drainage, and Water and Sewer, completing irrigation repair as necessary and signs, buttons, and markings activities, working on special projects as assigned, and documenting all work completed. Job RequirementsEducation and Experience: High School diploma or equivalent and no prior relevant work experience. Special Requirements: Must possess a valid Texas Class C driver's license. Ability to obtain a Texas Class A Driver's License (CDL A) within twelve (12) months from the date of hire. Supervision Exercised: Direct Supervision: Work is normally reviewed in progress and upon completion of each assignment to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and conformance to established standards; autonomy is granted at the task level; work is subject to both general and departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines. Ability to work with mechanical, chemical, electrical, and fire hazards. Ability to stand and walk for long periods. Ability to operate light and heavy equipment and hand and power tools. Ability to lift, push, pull, reach, kneel, crouch, crawl, bend, twist, climb, and balance frequently. Ability to operate city or personal vehicle for business purposes.
