NHDOT Recruitment Brochure The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Materials & Research, has a full-time vacancy for a Safety and Environmental Coordinator SUMMARY: To perform health, safety, environmental, workers compensation, fleet/facilities safety and security duties, to implement required programs/policies, procedures and initiatives in the Division of Project Development. To organize and conduct training related to safety and environmental programs, policies and procedures, to conduct audits and track compliance with established safety and health programs. To respond appropriately to various safety and environmental incidents, emergencies and needs, as they arise. YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree OR equivalent combination of 4 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Experience should be in occupational health and safety, industrial health and safety, transportation safety, or a related field, with responsibility for planning, monitoring programs or performing research. License/Certification: Valid driver's license. Other Requirements: The applicant's Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the hiring agency. Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, Right to Know and other Federal, State and Industry Standard Practices and Regulations related to occupational health and safety. Trainee Option: Candidates with an equivalent combination of 3 years of relevant education and experience after completion of high school may be considered and hired in 'trainee status' for this position. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Considerable knowledge of the organization and operations of the department or agency in which position is assigned. Considerable knowledge of the principles of administrative work. General knowledge of current literature in specialized field of work. Ability to write technical information. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with governmental officials, other employees and the general public. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and related applications), including the ability to create, edit, and manage documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and email communications efficiently and accurately. RESPONSIBILITIES: Serves as Division Safety Coordinator, with responsibility for promoting, managing, implementing and evaluating Department safety and health programs at the Division level; including conducting safety training; planning and scheduling Division safety days; record keeping; and operation and maintenance of related equipment and resources. Serves as Division Workers Compensation representative; conducts accident/injury investigations, generates required incident documentation and distributes to appropriate agencies. Serves as Division fleet safety representative, conducts Safe Driver training at passenger and maintenance vehicle levels, investigates Division motor vehicle and equipment incidents; private vehicle/property damage associated with department vehicle/equipment operations. Generates incident documentation; written, photographic and diagrammatic, and distributes to appropriate agencies. Serves as Division Environmental Coordinator. Contacts appropriate agencies and individuals in the event of Hazardous Materials incidents; investigates and documents incidents; coordinates and implements proper collection, storage, inspection, documentation and disposal of hazardous and solid waste materials. Serves as the Radiation Safety Officer to assure compliance with the Department's Radiation Protection Program and New Hampshire regulations for the storage and use of nuclear density testing gauges. Receives programmatic guidance and oversight from the Department Safety and Health Officer for all safety related initiatives and activities. Coordinates with the Department Safety and Health Officer to ensure compliance with current safety programs, policies, procedures, directives, and initiatives. Supports the research, development, and implementation of department-wide safety and health programs under the direction of the Safety and Health Officer. Conducts periodic Safety/Environmental inspections and audits at Division facilities. Coordinates the review of job hazard analysis documents with the Bureau work unit supervisors and then submits to Unit Safety Committee for approval. Provides Division Bureaus with appropriate distribution, management and maintenance of safety and environmental equipment and supplies. Coordinates Division fire extinguisher maintenance with approved contractor. Recommends/orders replacement equipment and supplies as needed. Maintains an active, current and progressive working knowledge of relevant topics, policies, regulations, directives and procedures, through continuing education, research, publications, trade presentations, seminars and other available means.
