Role Overview As the Estimating Manager, you will play a key role in managing the bidding process for complex Mechanical and Plumbing projects. Your expertise will be essential in every stage of the estimating process, from reviewing plans to finalizing negotiations with contractors and suppliers. Be part of shaping the strategy and vision of JE Dunn! Your Responsibilities: Conduct thorough quantity surveys for mechanical and plumbing materials based on project plans. Analyze project specifications and maintain a clear audit trail of estimates. Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors to solicit competitive pricing and manage bids effectively. Build strong collaborative relationships with project teams, subcontractors, vendors, and clients. Gain hands-on experience through field operations as opportunities arise. Additional Responsibilities: Prepare complex Mechanical and Plumbing cost estimates for a variety of projects. Compile material costs from vendor quotes and create summaries. Participate in the preconstruction process by reviewing mechanical options and conducting system analyses. Assist in bid analysis and subcontractor selection, providing valuable insights to enhance decision-making. Develop efficient sequencing requirements to meet project scheduling needs. Utilize your deep understanding of mechanical and plumbing systems to assess value engineering opportunities. Track value creation from development stages to inclusion in project documentation. Create and manage clear scopes of work for Mechanical and Plumbing tasks to enhance project flow and effectiveness. Support operations through constructability reviews and logistical planning. Deliver detailed and professional estimates through all phases of each project. Establish and nurture relationships with clients and subcontractors. Deliver impactful presentations and actively participate in project procurement discussions. Conduct feasibility studies regarding life-cycle costs of Mechanical and Plumbing systems. Lead efforts to analyze and archive project cost histories to improve future estimating. Provide mentorship and training to junior team members to foster their development. What You Bring: At least 5 years of estimating experience, ideally with over 8 years in the construction field. A Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel, and experience with construction estimating software. Ability to read and understand complex drawings and specifications. Knowledge of Lean processes and familiarity with various construction management methodologies. Working Environment: A valid and unrestricted driver's license is required. Ability to lift up to 10 pounds and potentially travel overnight as needed. Flexibility to work non-traditional hours as dictated by project needs. Office environment with exposure to various conditions on project sites. Location for this position may include Kansas City, MO; Austin, TX; Tempe, AZ; Atlanta, GA; Beaverton, OR; Omaha, NE.
