JOB SUMMARY The LPN is responsible for assisting the physicianwith direct patient care and conducting office procedures. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Identify self to internal and external customers by wearing identification badge at all times. Greet patients with courtesy and respect. Answer questions and direct requests appropriately and efficiently. Assist physicianwith direct patient care; assist with exams. Obtain history, drug allergies, current medications and vital signs from patient. Set up and assist with office surgical procedures; remove sutures, staples, change dressings. Document exam and treatment protocol, including operative discussion. Educate patient regarding visit, exam, treatment and medications, to include side effects, procedures, testing (including pre-op and post-op care). Answer incoming telephone calls and, Take message if appropriate and document Determine status of patient's systems, and direct care accordingly, i.e. inform doctor if immediate care is needed, offer work-in versus routine appointment, and refer patient to emergency room for emergent issues. Assure scheduling of surgeries, x-rays and labs. Report lab and x-ray results to patient. Track diagnostic procedures to assure that patients have had all diagnostic studies performed, reviewed by physicianand patient notified of results within a timely manner. Notify patients of unexpected delays in their appointment; offer to reschedule appointment when appropriate. Informs physicianof patient and office status to assure a timely flow of patients. Call in prescriptions to pharmacy if appropriate. Adjust schedules according to physicianrequest. Clean and sterilize instruments. Anticipate departmental needs and improve office efficiency by assisting other staff as necessary. Completes office/hospital charge slips with appropriate diagnosis/CPT code and submits for data entry on a daily basis. Physician has the option to delegate this responsibility to a mid-level provider. Other duties as assigned. Perform other duties as may be assigned cheerfully and willingly Requirements EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Graduate of Licensed Practical Nursing program, with an Associate's degree. Two years clinical experience. Must be licensed by the State of Florida as a Licensed Practical Nurse prior to hire and/or transfer into an LPN position and maintain licensure throughout employment in this position. Must hold and maintain Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (CPR and AED) certification. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Displays customer services skills, strong interpersonal skills, close attention to detail, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Be a person of integrity and character, willing to embrace change and make a positive impact in the lives of patients and co-workers. Ability to work with staff members at all levels of the organization in a cooperative, team-oriented manner. Preferred ability of typing 40 cwpm Proficient in use of English language both in written and verbal communication. Must be able to communicate with individuals of varying socio-economic backgrounds. Displays ability of giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. Professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations for patients and families. Familiarity with standard concepts, practices and procedures within nursing field. Compliance with hospital regulations and mandatory training/certifications. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Strength (Lift/Carry/Push/Pull): Medium (exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally) Standing/Walking: Occasionally; activity exists up to 1/3 of the time Keyboarding/Dexterity: Frequently; activity exists from &fac34; of the time Ability to look at a computer screen for extended periods. Ability to perform constant repetitive hands and finger motions. Ability to perform physical labor, including, but not limited to: holding, stooping, kneeling and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds without mechanical aid, for an extended period of time. Ability to work in various positions (standing, sitting, bending, and walking) for extended periods of time. Talking (Must be able to effectively communicate verbally): Yes Seeing: Yes Hearing: Yes EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Must exhibit stable work behaviors daily. Must possess adequate individual coping skills. Ability to remain calm and professional regardless of workload or time constraints. Must be able to work under stress and remain calm and professional. WORK ENVIRONMENT Exposed to frequent and constant interruptions in daily functions/schedule. Must be available to customers and staff throughout the day. May be required to work extended hours to meet department needs Clinical/Medical practice back office operations.
