Position Overview: The Senior Director, Business Development and Licensing Officer plays a crucial role in advancing Bayer Pharmaceuticals' strategy, specifically in Oncology. Reporting to the Head of Business Development & Licensing, you will be pivotal in identifying, negotiating, and executing high-value licensing, acquisition, and strategic collaborations. Key Responsibilities: Lead the strategy and execution of Business Development & Licensing initiatives for Oncology, encompassing sourcing, evaluation, negotiation, and closing of deals. Manage end-to-end transactions, overseeing business case development, valuation, term sheet negotiation, due diligence, and transition to alliance management. Collaborate within Integrated Deal Teams, working alongside Scientific Licensing colleagues when appropriate. Conduct comprehensive internal assessments—technical, clinical, commercial, and financial—to inform senior leadership and drive decision-making. Engage directly with partners, designing creative deal structures that meet complex commercial, scientific, and legal requirements. Present assessments of opportunities and recommendations to senior leadership and governance committees for approvals. Oversee selected alliances to maximize deal value and ensure effective partner governance and outcomes. Expand and maintain external networks within the biotech, pharma, and investment communities to identify and evaluate new opportunities. Implement Bayer's Open Innovation and ecosystem engagement strategy in the US and EU, collaborating closely with regional commercial teams to align on opportunities. Required Qualifications: Advanced degree (MS/MA/PhD or equivalent) in Life Sciences or a degree in Business, Law, Finance, or a related field. Demonstrated success in leading and closing complex biopharma deals, including strong negotiation and contracting experience (please include deal sheet with application). Extensive knowledge of pharmaceutical R&D, Oncology drug development, and the competitive landscape. Strong commercial acumen in valuation, deal structuring, and business case development. Exceptional analytical, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to simplify complex information and influence at the executive level. Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams in a matrix environment and drive timely decisions. Capacity to build trust and influence stakeholders across various cultures and seniority levels. Willingness to travel up to 40%. Preferred Qualifications: 15+ years of relevant industry experience. A minimum of 7 years in Business Development or related fields such as finance, VC, banking, or equity research. Compensation for this position ranges from $220,466.40 to $330,699.60, with additional benefits including healthcare, vision, dental, retirement, paid time off, and sick leave.
