Job Description Construction EstimatorRiverside County POSITION SUMMARY The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for cold storage and thermal construction projects, including freezers, coolers, insulated metal panels, and associated systems. This position partners with the Project Management and Field Operations teams to evaluate project scope, analyze drawings and specifications, secure subcontractor/vendor pricing, and ensure competitive, profitable bids. This role reports to the Construction Manager. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Reviews project plans, specifications, and related documents to determine scope of work and material/labor requirements Prepares detailed quantity takeoffs for materials, equipment, thermal systems, and subcontracted services Collaborate with Project Managers and Executive Team in developing accurate budgets and bid strategies Solicits, evaluates, and scopes subcontractor and vendor proposals Identifies potential cost-saving alternatives in materials, construction methods, and scheduling Assists in developing conceptual and design-build estimates based on limited information Attends site visits, bid walks, and pre-bid meetings as needed to gather additional project insight Works with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment on scope, assumptions, exclusions, and risk items Prepares bid summaries, proposals, and supporting documents for submission to clients Maintains current knowledge of industry pricing trends, cold storage technologies, insulated panel systems, vapor barrier requirements, and underfloor insulation practices Builds and maintains strong vendor and subcontractor relationships Updates estimating databases, templates, and historical cost archives Supports change order pricing as needed on active projects KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES Experience with cold storage/freezer/cooler construction, including vapor barriers, insulated metal panels, underfloor heating/insulation, and cold storage door systems Strong understanding of construction methods, sequencing, and labor productivity Proficiency in estimating software, Microsoft Excel, and general computer applications Ability to read and interpret construction documents, specifications, and mechanical details Strong analytical and mathematical skills with a keen attention to detail Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills Ability to build relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal partners High level of organization and ability to meet strict deadlines Problem-solving mindset with the ability to analyze cost drivers and risks Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and commitment to accuracy OTHER QUALIFICATIONS Previous experience in cold storage construction preferred (field or office-based) Dedicated estimating experience preferred, but not required if candidate has relevant superintendent/site management experience in cold storage projects Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience accepted Valid driver’s license Authorized to work in the United States Willingness to travel for site walks or pre-bid meetings as needed Apply directly or submit your resume and project list to Sandy Josko at , or call/text 605.799.4799 .
